Is anyone else as scared as I am about global warming? I am seeing some very alarming articles recently predicting 80% annillation of the population in 31 years and irreversible path to this if not corrected in 5 years. Other articles about melting ice caps 70 years faster than originally thought and greenland losing billions of gallons of ice in a day. Efforts by scientist to block the sun in an attempt to cool the planet. Other ideas such as blocking the sun at the poles to mimic the sun's reflection of the polar ice caps which are currently melting away. Other articles about the methane gas trapped in permafrost which is melting and will release it into the atmosphere...causing an accelerated warming. My son is 2 years old. This seriously keeps me up at night and is hard for me to shake. I believe it all. The worst part is literally no one cares.

Oh we are all going to burn up! Feeling cynical tonight. I'm in good company.

I share your concern..i feel we have crossed the point of no return and should be trying to figure out where and how we as human beings are going to survive in a sustainable way...at present i live in the florida keys and have seen in the short time I've lived here a rise in average sea level, its happening and people are oblivious to what is going on around them...kind of like the frog in the pot of water on a stove.....i am looking to move ,any sane person should.
when we have a minimally educated populace coupled with a minimally educated president and a cadre of enabling grifters, we have a perfect storm of what could be labeled environmental suicide.
there are practical responses to the crisis, but at present there is no political will to respond.......we, the sane ones(!!) need to vote as if our life depends on it...because it does
there,..... I've vented!....
your thoughts?

i can only say I Agree!!!!

Of course we are going through a sixth great extinction phase 😟

CO2 is plant food …. we are taxing plant food. How stupid is that. Great video

Interesting book about it (also Audiobook version)...

I started reading it but found it way too depressing.

The Union of Concerned Scientists are apparently working efficiently regarding climate change.

my final word on global warming. i can think of many things that will impact your life much more than global warming (now known as climate change).
unfortunately, you can't do anything about any of these changes. i can pretty well guarantee a financial depression within a few years. try to prepare for immediate threats, not theoretical threats which may occur hundreds of yrs from now.

@Mb_Man ,
did you watch the video with an open mind. i doubt it?

@Mb_Man ,
just as i thought. that's the answer i would expect from someone with a closed, weak mind.

The only real way to tell is go to nth poll and see for your self ..
You have heard of media lies.. Its just another way to control the masses..
Don't fall pray..

I can understand that you’re worried. I’m too, however I take each day at a time and try to sway politicians to do something.

The evidence for climate change is overwhelming. In 2018 the Great Barrier Reef was declared dead. Several independent sources warn of the collapse of the Great Plains water source by 2040. Climate models are coljaborated with air samples from the Greenland Ice Sheet going back 15,000 years. Climate change gappens over decades, not milennia. Human contributions accelerate natural cycles.
Fear, though, as they say, is the mind-killer. It is healthier to ask yourself how you can adapt. Denial just sliws your ability to adapt. The religious wingnuts will attribure change to God, and throw up their hands helplessly. Relying on ither bureaucracies to solve the problem is futile. Focus on how you can adapt and position yourself. For me, it’s reducing my iwn carbon footprint, reducing my energy consumption and demand for material things. Let the deniers slip into olivion as you thrive.

Do you think governments will have to cooperate to some extent about climate change?

something to think about. the great barrier reef is supposed to be dying b/c of higher ocean temps. yet there are the exact same type of coral reefs 1000+ miles north which are in water which is 1.5 degrees warmer & are quite healthy.

@callmedubious Can you give more specifics? The name and location of the thriving coral reefs? Where did you read about it? Can you send a link?

@Mare , it was on an aussie news show. why don't you try googling it?

@callmedubious So I found an National Geographic article about how there are pockets of coral reefs that are thriving even with global warming. They're studying them but it doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of coral reefs are in serious trouble. <a href="https://www.nationalgeographic.com/news/2018/06/38-coral-reefs-thriving-conservation-environment-science/#close" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" class="forumlink">[nationalgeographic.com]

we've been at the top of the food chain for an awful long time.
maybe it's just Karma, the Planet existed before there were people and will exist when there are no people.
it's nothing to be afraid of death is just another part of life

So it’s okay with you that we humans are causing the extinction of many, many other species while we foolishly, selfishly do ourselves in?

Once there were millions of trilobites, now there are none.
the wisdom the trilobite teachers us nothing is permanent.
not even our problems.

I too, am very concerned about the consequences of climate change, as well as the plastic and other waste that is floating in our oceans, rivers, and scatted in other places on earth. I am concerned about the destruction of the rain forests and the loss of ~80% of large land mammals and the same percentage of large ocean animals. I am concerned about the air pollution in India, China and now (again) in the United States. I remember the 1980's in Southern California when you couldn't see the San Bernardino mountains that were only a few miles away. During the last two years,as thanks to Trump, air pollution is on the increase in the U.S. I could go on, and I could also add details, and links to sources about climate change. However, others (like "Flyingsaucesir" ) have done this but it sees that those who deny climate change don't bother to read or think about the source materials. Literally 97% of the worlds scientists accept the scientific evidence, yet these few continue to deny. The general inability or laziness of so many in our society, especially here in the U.S., to think critically, to be interested enough to make an effort to be informed and knowledgeable... this is what worries me the most.

I read online that real estate values are dropping because of climate change. This I think could shed light in areas where light needs to be shed.

I just seen today where is it snowing on the first day of summer... Just think about it you have been hearing these same warnings for 30 and 40 years... The earth goes through periods of warming and Cooling throughout history and this has been proven lay it to rest and worry about things you can control...

Snowing on the first day of summer (where btw?) doesn’t bother you? That sounds like our climate is beyond fucked to me.

@Wurlitzer in Colorado it didn't say what altitude but got almost two-foot...

1

Worried about pollution but not scared at all. We should take care of the environment, be responsible citizens, the governments should have a plan, we should pay more taxes ... is all acceptable. However, the whole environment fear is overplayed. It is important but there are far more important issues above this phobia.... like children dying of hunger and violence.

Tomorrow, we will start beating up drums loud that raccoons are endangered and it will affect our lives.

This is exactly the things that turn off mainstream people. The elite, nerdish thinking of life that have no high relevance to people's day to day lives.

If you think children are hurting from hunger and violence now, imagine what innocent children will suffer when in another decade or so, when millions are forced to migrate when their home regions become unlivable. When staple crops fail. When riots break out over shortages. When air pollution and great heat combine to kill many elderly and children.
What was that about relevance??

I am sorry to say that your fears are well-founded. It appears that we have about ten years in which to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions in order to keep global temperature rise under 2 degrees Celsius. Beyond 2 degrees, feedbacks in the natural system kick in and temperatures spiral upward uncontrollably. Feedback mechanisms include things like decrease on Earth's albedo (reflectivity) due to disappearance of ice cover, and massive increase in atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations (and consequent temperature increase) due to melting permafrost. If proposals to add sulphur dioxide to the atmosphere to counteract the loss of albedo sound crazy, you are right. The acid rain resulting from such so-called geoengineering would devastate our agriculture (and forests). Technologies that can suck CO2 out of the atmosphere are in development, but they will be expensive and will have to be implemented on a massive scale. Bottom line: tough times ahead.

Did you write the content of your post based on any detection of me? I suffer from paranoia. I'm trying to understand my condition.

@seekingtruth
The answer to your question is "no." I have no idea who you are. None whatsoever.

Richard Feynman on the scientific method:

Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming(CAGW) was an interesting theory that has been refuted by experience. Worry about something else.

Climate worriers, stop, the solar cycle that has caused the global warming has ended, and now the sun is entering a cooling phase, all natural and predictable Google "Maunder Minimum" you will also find CO2 increases plant growth and a greening effect can already be seen, most of the news about climate has been exaggerated by Fake news organisations, all to pump the idea of a carbon credit exchange system where they can milk millions more from the gullible public, stop reading the propaganda and do your own research into the facts, man made global warming has been a HOAX and most fell for it because of a clever press system lying to you all the time, most believe what they are told and cannot believe the press would lie about something as important as this!!! but they have, they have been caught faking the figures on warming and when corrected show no warming happening, Arctic ice is now expanding all checkable folks, the last time a Maunder Minimum happened we entered a mini ice age, with frost fares on the Thames, search maunder minimum and solar cooling cycles and find out what I say is true, sorry folks your bubbles that your living in have been manufactured to manipulate you, but a search will reveal the liars. kind regards Peter

Another denier. Go stick your head in the sand, you're that useful.

Don't confuse the global warming worriers with facts. Then they will need to find something else to worry about.

Mister, you obviously have NO idea what is real and what is fake. Actually, while the sun went through its MINIMUM output of energy in its 11-year cycle, the Earth experienced its HOTTEST years ever recorded. Geez, get clue!

0

I have good news for you, the global warming we have been seeing is due to the Sun being in an active stage, perfectly natural, it has just finished this phase and is going into what is called the "Grand Maunder Minimum", search on YouTube, it is solar cooling, check the arctic ice build up that is now happening, you have nothing to worry about, the main reason you have been bombarded by this "hype" is the carbon exchange system designed to extract millions more from the public in their panic about fake global warming, they have been caught lying about the figures presented, we are going into a solar cooling phase , last time it happened we had a mini ice age, and frozen fairs on the Thames, more of a worry is the collapse of the financial system that looks likely, everyone should have three months of stored tinned and dried food stored for their families, and a method of purifying water, a lot of people will not prepare and they will look to steal your stored food. so you need a method of defence, like a self loading pistol crossbow or a catapult, both can maim someone in an emergency, store seeds and get a poly tunnel as the weather cools a lot of our food stuffs will not grow due to the shorter growing seasons, expect food shortages from weather destruction flooding and baking, crop losses in the usa are very high the same is happening world wide, so get prepared, I would rather have it and not need it that not have it and need it!!! think about what happens in a financial collapse, what if the electricity is no more? no more food in the shops? no sewage or water being pumped? this is all a possibility, but the more your prepared the less you worry, so start prepping and get some sleep 🙂 bless you Peter

Bullshit.

0

Yes. I am as concerned as you are. I was concerned back when I had my children who are now 22 and 24. I even wrote a research proposal about trapping methane gas trapped in the permafrost, but I didn't get the job.

0

Global warming makes me freak out big time too. It's by far my number one worry.
When governments go to war or when they have to fend off a recession, it's funny how billions $ suddenly starts to fly around. Climate emergency is far more threatening and our leaders should act and budget accordingly.

1

Let's be real anyone over 60 on here spouting climate denial won't be around too much longer. Especially when we need a complete and total economic and system collapse of our supply chains. The millions fleeing the coasts and 3rd world countries will overwhelm the 2nd and 1st world countries resources and ability to cope.

What can you do?
Learn and teach survival skills, learn to hunt, grow food, use and build weapons. Make sure to exercise and sell off your excess useless items now. Downsize and become more mobile, prepare for change and try to have at least 1-2 weeks worth of food and water on site at all times.

I've gathered both guns and a compound bow, knives, hatchets, and gear, and try to practice often.

Scary fact

Having fruits and veggies out of season is a testament to our modern international delivery system. The grocery and department stores you rely upon get new stock every single day.

If a major national emergency were to occur and this system were disrupted. Experts have determined that unless you have a pantry and store water. Most Americans would have less than three days of food and all of those stores would be empty in 24 hours.

Then the riots would start.

Meanwhile, until this happens I'm working hard to learn new skills is software engineering, security, and managing multiple businesses. Hoping for a bright future where the survival skills will just be an amusing discussing during dinner or reminiscing over a fire with friends.

until it isn't.

You are correct about the financial collapse and the destruction of the system we have, but global warming is a hoax it has been solar led and is now going into a cooling phase, search maunder minimum, last time this happened we entered a mini ice age, and as for CO2 figures, check this out it is having a greening effect on the world, with increased plant growth, commercial growers pump extra CO2 into their crops and get between 20% and 60% increase ion growth.

2

take a deep breath..global warming reports you read are alarmist. climates change drastically & have done so way before the CO2 scare.
you mention melting ice caps. try this simple experiment. put an ice cube in a glass fill the glass to the top with water. what happens when the ice melts?

alarmist for a reason....its actually happening and we should be alarmed! this is no joke!

@Lauraleigh39 ,
you are totally brainwashed. obviously you didn't do the ice cube experiment.

@callmedubious I think the ice cube experiment is extraneous. Very solid archeological evidence shows that radical climate changes DO happen, and they can have devastating results.

@callmedubious The melting polar ice is not floating on water. It is on land. Your experiment with ice cubes in a glass does not represent the situation accurately.

Your example was laughed at when a theist made the same assertion. Think the show was The Atheist Experience.

To more accurately represent your experiment suspend a screen above your full glass of ice water. in the screen suspend ice cubes so the water from the melting ice will fall into your full glass.

Another factor you missed is: [cosee.umaine.edu]

@NoMagicCookie ,
is the glass 1/2 full or 1/2 empty? or are you playing with a full deck?

@callmedubious .edu is a domain reserved for universities. You would be well served to read the content.

Ad hominem? as apposed to addressing the topic. This does not paint you in a good light.

Highly recommended-- "Climate, the whole story" By Christen Peters. She is he former head of the archaeology dep. at the university of Washington. She puts it all in perceptive and gives you the real facts without an ax to grind.

Thank you. Will you explain explicitly what you mean ax to grind?

@seekingtruth I think he means it's objectively written, no agenda, no spin (I haven't read it).

@IAMGROOT Are you aware any sites that do not use mathematics to interfere with user interaction?
