'White supremacy': popular knitting website Ravelry bans support for Trump

"One of the biggest knitting websites in the world, which claims to have more than 8 million members, has announced that it will ban users from expressing support for Donald Trump, saying that to do so constitutes “white supremacy”.

On Sunday, administrators for Ravelry, a site for knitters, crocheters, designers and anyone dabbling in the fibre arts, said that they were making any expression of support for Trump and his administration in forum posts, patterns, on their personal profile pages or elsewhere permanently off limits.

“We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy. Support of the Trump administration is undeniably support for white supremacy,” the site’s administrators said in a post.

Users could also be permanently banned under the policy." (continued on link)

I love love love this so much! I hope more sites do this.

It probably surprised a lot of people that a crafting site would have to do this but there are a limited number of quality sites like Ravelry and you get people from every age and walk of life on there.

It is so good to see liberal america dealing with free speech - you can talk about anything - so long as I agree with you

@NoPlanetB Free speech is, by definition, the freedom to say anything ... once you forbid or deny the right of any individual to speak their view, you push that view into extremis - that is the road to fundamentalist agendas (on whatever cause) that degrade society. The way to deal with a differing viewpoint is to discuss, debatem put forward your opposing point of view ... you may not change the minds of all, but you ensure society in general has been exposed to the debate and can form a general concensus. That is the essence of civilisation

@NoPlanetB I suggest you read a little about athens and the birth of democracy, where freedom of speech was founded
