God hears me?
Sitting at the park, being my hippie-witchy self...more importantly minding my own damn business, when this lady walks up and says “God wants me to tell you he hears you and hears you praying.” Ummm...say huh? I said “Does he?” Of course she comes back with a seemingly heartfelt yes. “That’s strange because I don’t believe in God and I definitely don’t pray.” She then changes it to something like God wants her to give me a message. Honestly I just got up and walked to my car and drove off. I don’t have the energy to deal with delusional people today. I wonder what people would think if I just randomly walked up to them and asked them to question their beliefs because there’s no proof of any God? I can somewhat deal with the random church invite as long as it’s short and they keep moving, but this stuff is more than annoying.

"I'm an atheist," I say firmly. "I chose rational thought, not magical beliefs."

That shuts them up.

Was at my customary place in our tourist town waiting for the fireworks last night when here come the ..jesus pushers. “I brought someone to talk to you this time.” Great, though I… Soon I was surrounded, with four of these boys hounding me, for jesus..

They ignored the fireworks! I finally described them as the equivalent of their Arabian counterparts who fly passenger planes into buildings.. Maybe it’s ‘guy thing’ ... but I couldn’t just walk away. ..little fuckers

If that happened in UK I think I would consider a mental health act assessment. Seriously.

'yes, it is a beautiful day in a beautiful place .... which god do you follow?
then after they say
Well it could be Vishnu, Odin, or a host of others ... why did you choose yours?

and most have never even considered the question .. I like trying to make christians think, but it is hard for most of them

" Thanks, that's good to know because I've been praying for Him to strike down that anti-Christ Donald tRump and his satanic Republican party"

Certainly a double standard exists and irks me to the moon. Christians feel perfectly justified in slinging there made up bullshit all over the US. Just try getting elected if you declare yourself a non Christian. It is time for that to change. It won’t be easy and it won’t be quick. But the number of people in the US indentifying as non religious is rising rapidly. Thank God! There are no gods. There is only us. And I find it more and more an insult to hominids that a lot of folks believe we are controlled by a made up being. I have to tell that I recently had a similar experience. A women friend and I sitting in a park in Vancouver Washington. Young man came up to us and asked if he could speak to us about Jesus. I told him we were atheists. He asked if we were “OK with that”? I said yeah we are. He simply walked away which I appreciated. I think more Christians need to experience us if not hear us.

Good points.. Realized early, as much as I’d had to offer ...gaining elected office in my red-neck county (in OR) wasn’t going to happen. I was an Atheist. Stayed political, just couldn’t run..

I continue to make a point about speaking up as an Atheist, in an equivalent local (SW VA). I want ‘them’ to know we’re here! As mentioned below, last week I ‘took on’ 4 at once.. Felt good, actually. Assuming at least one might be triggered to think, or question, it felt worth the effort.

I was coming back from walking my dog one morning and I took notice of a couple of African American male bible thumpers canvasing the neighborhood. As I approached my house, a young guy, maybe mid 20’s, was knocking on my neighbor’s door across the street. It was empty, she had passed the year before. So I called over to him and let him know. Of course, then he came over to my place. But he was very polite, and I politely told him I was an Atheist and informed him that my neighbor above me was too and would not open her door. My other neighbors were all working, so he didn’t save anyone in my neighborhood that day! 😊But I did save him some time. Being irascible to these morons just cements their views of Atheists as unkind. Better to out-nice them with sugary kindness; it befuddles their minds! 😁

How rude! Too bad you couldn’t come up with a scathing retort! Can’t even enjoy a peaceful commune with nature without being interrupted by religious maggots.

More than delusional she is narcissistic psychopathic danger to herself and others....you did the right move to escape b4 she flipped from cult programming into full rage she is alone in her insane brain

I certainly can Understand your frustration with what this Lady was saying to you. I've had similar things happen to .in the past . Basically many years ago now a Black man was handing out Religious. Stuff from his church I said no thanks and he questioned why ? I said flat out I'm not interested in being apart of any Church. That ended that Chat

for years that useta make me mad. not any more though. I still get peeved about them wearing down poor little kids with their bullsh!t, but to have the cajunas to witness to others should be admired. not scorned. if it was true then you'd be happy if someone showed you "the light". wouldnt you? the truth is we're all going to the same place. all of us. and the path is the only variance. so if people want a complex path that makes them happy then so be it. maybe it will make them better people than not.

Yeah, I gotta hand it to these people who take personal risk, possible anger or rejection from others. and still 'share' their beliefs. Takes chutzpa.

I hear you there. That hasn't happened to me yet and I hope it never does.

Had Tean JW knock on my door. Saw her propanganda crap before opening th door and before she could speak, I said "We're Jewish and very proud of it." Totally flabbergasted her.

I would have brought all reason to bear on that one. That's just the way I see it but I can understand.

@BohoHeathen I can understand that we all have good days and some that aren't as good but they're still good. 🤔

You know, I'm just your basic kind person who TRIES to do unto others. Whether this woman was "delusional" or not means nothing to me- I don't care what she believes and i do not consider it a transgression when a stranger approaches me and speaks. Who cares? She is not forcing anything on me.... No threat to me, no offense. Can we just ignore or be decent about it........I'm no "goody two shoes"..(ha ha) but i believe in respect. "no, thanks, I disagree" and forget it...shy should it ruin a nice day in the park? I don't get it. We are all different from each other in many ways.

@BohoHeathen That's a valid point! She DID invade, for sure. Some people need to learn discretion.

I think I would have channelled Greta Garbot and said.....”Go away.....I want to be alone”....and have added “that goes for god too”!

1

God wants me to tell you that it's just a figment of your imagination.

I would have just said “ thank you” . She wasn’t forceful or rude. But that’s just me .
