Mueller's appearance to testify may be coming too late. The momentum has shifted and regardless what Mueller says, it will have little import.

What Trump set in motion this week has the potential of drowning out any impact the Mueller testimony might have had. The Democratic Party waited too long to subpoena Mueller, and Mueller's reticence to come forward may have negated the benefit that he have been able to contribute.

It is up to the Democrats to reharness the initiative and bring it back to high crimes and misdemeanors. The upcoming Presidential campaign will be a campaign filled with race-baiting tropes and lies built on misrepresentation. Trump has presently taken the upperhand and defined the stage going into 2020.

...and away we go ..blame it on The Democrats.. Again... I say we blame it on the Republicans!

Where are the Senate hearings? Where’s the public & political outrage over those refusing to show up - let alone testify at Congressional hearings? The newly won House can only do so much, and there’s no doubt Pelosi hates this motherfucker in our White House … but here it comes again ..if ya can’t take on the real political power within this nation - ya eat your own ~ Such denigration isn't lost on the would/ should-be voters, either..

I am a liberal progressive. The Democrats have failed to understand Republican strategy and to act aggressively enough for decades.The democrats are about the only party that can take an absolute win and turn it into a rousing defeat. I have voted principally Democratic since 1974.

@t1nick Your piece was nuanced, but the flavor of ‘blame it on the Dems’ definitely struck me. And I don’t like that.. Not so long ago it was determined there were 8 Republican ‘Think Tanks’ to the Democrat’s 1. Meaning - the industrial might (think Koch Bros) of this nation has and continues to craft the Republican Party and it’s strategy.

I’ll no doubt have my disagreements with the Democratic Party, but feel many of their recent losses have come about due to an underlying badmouthing from their own. Recently, I’ve attributed that to the frustration of fellow, if most often female democrat’s inability or unwillingness to go toe to toe with their industrial opposition, but find it far easier to bash and/ or doubt the purity of their own..

I don’t know how we get past it…. Free thinkers, with scattered thoughts and extreme diversity vs. small-minded followers willing to be led to slaughter.. Didn’t mean to get on you personally, but felt your thoughts are a prime example of the willingness to demean or demand too much from our own, while ignoring or refusing to consider what they’re up against. I’ve no answers for this one … beyond assuming, eventually it’d get so bad the majority of this nation might make the effort to take on their captors… And if now isn’t the time ..perhaps never 😕

@Varn

Like you I am very concerned about the future of the country and our democracy. I concur with many of your observations. I listen to about 5-6 hours of news a day.

Listening to how the Democrats were failing to anticipate or address Trump's strategy (witnessed in last nights rally in NC), and how they do not seem to have an answer to counter his dirty politics, needless to say discouraged me. Democrats keep bringing a knife to a gunfight. They let Trump frame the dialogue and define the rules of the game. Yesterday was just another example of snatching defeat out of the mouth of victory.
