Since December 2013, I have donated 24 units of my B negative blood to the Red Cross.

Vampire Blood Bank: "Now, don't be selfish! Let us suck your blood for free, so we can sell it at a ridiculous profit to the Hospital Vampires, so they can sell it back to you at a ridiculous price!".

You. Are. A. Very. Selfish. Hateful. Excuse. For. A. Human. Too bad hospitals can't pull a card that says 'this one is too selfish to DONATE to others, so let's make him wait until he makes his own blood' should you need it.
What part of "volunteer or donate" did you miss in the original post? Or do you just prefer being an ass?

@Heidi68I'll bet you own stock in a Vampire Blood Bank!

The outfits that collect the blood, turn around and sell it to hospitals for a hundred bucks a pint. The hospitals then charge patient's insurance companies two-hundred bucks (or more) per pint. You are basically giving your blood to a vampire, who turns around and sells it to other vampires. Therefore, I don't "donate" blood. If they want my blood, they are going to pay me at least fifty bucks a pint!

@K9Kohle789 The last time I received blood in a hospital, they billed my insurance company $250 a pint for it! And before they would even perform surgery, I had to go to a vampire bank of the hospital's choosing, and "donate" two pints of blood. So, no, you don't receive it "free".

Yes - they do get paid for it but exactly how do you think they operate? The Red Cross brings a bus every couple of months to my work place - how do you think they pay for the maintenance on that bus? Fuel for that bus? How about the salaries of the 4 to 5 people working? How about all of those bags holding the pints of blood, bandages, needles, etc?
Even if you go to a hospital, they have associated costs - what about if they run out of blood & have to get it from somewhere else? There are fee's associated with the entire process!
Go back & read my Introduction Sentence. FYI - giving, volunteering and donating are not things you get paid for, you do it out of the freaking kindness in your heart, not for gain!

@Heidi68 LOL! The bloodsucking Blood Vampires must really like you! Are you one of them too? Let's see your canine teeth!

@davknight that fact that you find any of this funny is very telling. I sure hope they like me and I will continue to GIVE. Ya know what, all those people who needed blood & happened to received MY blood, I bet they like me also.
Let's see your ass because you are certainly showing it.

Have given blood--A+. Collected signatures on petition to put anti-GMO proposition on the ballot. Am currently in citizens' climate lobby organization which has bill HR 763 before the House, and endorsements from 49 bipartisan Congress members.

I do a lot of political stuff also but haven't worked on any 'bills' yet.
I work with habitat for humanity a lot - we have women's builds and work with the community quite a bit. I find it full filling to help someone in need get a home (even if it is a religious organization).

@Heidi68 How kind you are in thought and deed. I forgot other things I did ....
Your pets reminded me that I volunteered at the SPCA. I also was a volunteer tutor for public school kids after school.
I haven't worked directly on the bill, but worked on getting endorsements for it by writing letters to many potential supporters and sponsors, getting endorsements in person, writing letters to newspapers, magazines, businesses, etc. Some volunteers do go to Washington to lobby about the bill.

@AnonySchmoose I just feel there is so much sadness & pain in the world if I can help 1 person then I have succeeded.

I gave blood for years, I have volunteered and even traveled to other areas to help. I was always willing to lend a hand when I could, now I only do the less strenuous things.

2

I used to give blood...I’m O negative.....the universal donor. I stopped giving blood after I had jaundice a number of years ago.

My dad is O negative but medications keep him from giving any longer.
I found out today a friend is O negative but she is a chicken.... I begged & begged but she wouldn't budge.
I am A+.

Good for you did it when younger

I give plasma every two - three weeks.

I have never done that.

@Heidi68 It's the same as giving blood but they pump back some of it back into you. Takes a bit longer though.

@Jolanta I might have to look into doing that at some point.

Often 🙂
