This is ridiculous! Another mass shooting in the USA - the second one in 24 hours.
It's no good saying the police shot dead the shooter - because he had already killed nine civilians by then.

Todays guy is out of the ordinary - the news here said he walked through walmart shooting randomly. 20 dead and 26 wounded, with some wounded expected to die - that is a man picking targets and shooting accurately.
The shooter is clearly not someone who should have been allowed to carry a gun and I have seen no details of the weapon, the man or his motivations - but if he had no gun he could not have killed and injured so many.

We really do need to pass common sense gun ownership laws in the US. The issue is, the only people who are against such laws are the same ones who know damn well that they wouldn’t pass a psych evaluation to prove they are fit to own fire arms. The same individuals with potentialy violent and paranoid tendencies who are consequently most likely to engage in a mass shooting.

...your smiling photo does not match your words of urgency.. sad to say ~

For many years I’ve been told I’m wrong when describing the violent video ‘games’ rampant in the US as a major source of such carnage. Watched an example of ‘the latest’ a day ago, with someone commenting ‘how real the graphics have become!’ They’ve numbed our young to mass murder…

Couple that with the ‘Zombi Apocalypse' movies, and add in the NRA’s promotion and legislative defence of assault rifles … and you get this. Where a civilized nation would instantly put a stop to the sale, promotion, and manufacture of everything above - here in the US, entrenched power lobbies protect them ..with the guise of “Freedom.”

Horrifying ....what more can we say. Until the politicians start taking gun control seriously things will never change...it’s certainly not going to happen under this current administration. Commiserations to all those suffering today because they have lost someone dear to them.

I keep hearing people in positions of power say, "We can't let this kind of thing be the new normal." Guess what? It already is!!! And you are doing nothing to change it!!!

To us here in EU it is ridiculous. We had one school shooting in UK, and guns were banned. Same, it appears in NZ. USA is different. The population there are largely the decendants of people fleeing tyranny. The constitution enshrines the idea that if tyranny were ever to rear its head in USA, then 'well ordered (and armed) militia' have the right to protect themselves. Now as outsiders, we can see HUGE holes in those arguments but leaving that aside, this problem is for the US population to sort out. We can only hope they see sense. As the mother of adult Anglo/American children, I am glad we chose to bring them up in UK.

@Hebert54 Exactly

@Hebert54 We have murders every day here in UK, especially in big cities, especially with knives. Although I abhor every one of them and hate to hear of another family destroyed by violence, there is a difference. Those killings are often perpetrated by disenfranchised youth against their peers. It is trully horrible and I feel the agony of yet another mother left without her son. The numbers though are tiny compared to the mass shootings in USA. My son is on holiday in Budapest as we speak. He is 23 yrs old and his first foreign holiday alone. I make him text me every day (or 'send me a thumbs up or I am on the phone to interpol!'😉 Here is safe. I would hate to live in a place where I would fear them going shopping. That is the difference

@Hebert54 a good guy with a gun wouldn't be necessary if the bad guy didn't have a gun in the first place... Ban guns... Except for law enforcement... And as for the hammer argument, if people start killing with hammers, then ban hammers too...
