One of the wonderful things about being in my fifties is the fact that I finally know who I am.

Apart from my relationship with a man.

Apart from my being a mother.

Apart from my work.

I am more than the roles I play in my life and I am learning that I have the extraordinary ability to try new experiences and enjoy my time alone as a recently divorced woman.

I credit much of my new confidence to social media, which has allowed me to practice using my voice.

Apart from being in a relationship with a man huh? Well, so much for that. Good to know.

i'd rather be back in my 20s not knowing who i am. b/c knowing who i am is Fcking depressing.

I hope this is tongue and cheek. 😋

@ElusiveMoby ,
put it this way. my life turned out OK so far as material things are concerned. but i could have acheived so much more. but then again: acheived what for whom?

Any advice for someone who has about 15 years to get to that age? I turn 39 this year and been divorced 8 months now. I kind of go back and forth between enjoying not having to answer to anyone and feeling lonely. Definitely trying to figure myself out as I'm doing more the single mom thing than anything else right now. Their dad is teaching English in South Korea, has been gone about a year and will be gone another year.

Let me give you a thoughtful response when I have time later today.

When you feel lonely then talk to us. As for knowing who you are, the time here may help you explore and solidify what is true for you.

@LucasfromGR Thank you. I really appreciate that.

@SimplyJaneen was just curious how your feeling. Feel free to message me if you wanna chat🙂

@LucasfromGR Depends on the day. Definitely some days I miss having someone else around to help out with some of the stuff but we would be butting heads. It will be very interesting to see how it goes when he does come back to the US. Met up with a group of freethinker's last night which is always nice. Today marks seven years since I started going to the monthly events my local freethinker's group has. Had to work early this morning so I had to cut it a little short but still got to stay and chat with people a bit. Another group meets up next week and I'm planning to go to that. School starts back for my two in 17 days so it's really going to start getting busy around here as I get them ready to wake up early again and all that fun stuff.

Self reliance feels good, doesn't it? I am in the same boat and enjoying the experience also! It is truly liberating.

Most of us weren't trained to be self-reliant, and it's rewarding, isn't it!!!

Freedom to be....good job....stay free from theocracy and help others out just by sharing your thoughts

Well done. I like being 53. I feel like a proper grown up and can say exactly what I think!

It's so nice not to have to see a post like this that ends with the person crediting their relationship with Jesus or the love of God for the positive changes in their life.

Glad to hear things are going well for you.

My relationship with myself has been the greatest gift I've developed.

Thanks for the response.
