Liberal snowflake President Gerald Ford with teammate Willis Ward at the University of Michigan in 1934. Ford threatened to quit the team when Ward was benched for a game against Georgia Tech, who at the time refused to play against black players. "His sacrifice led me to question how educational administrators could capitulate to raw prejudice." Ford used the story to voice his support for U-M's affirmative action admissions policy saying, "Do we really want to risk turning back the clock to an era when the Willis Wards were isolated and penalized for the color of their skin, their economic standing or national ancestry?" I wonder what he would have said about Colin Kapernick, if he were President today?

Michigan's proud of Ford... within reason. Pardoning Nixon before his impeachment trial to spare the nation embarrassment was a fumble as far as I'm concerned.

I'm sure they cut that deal before they even nominated him, he's a good man. I voted for Carter but I would have been fine with him.I think both of them were honorable men who put the common good above their own ambitions.

@Buttercup I'm not certain that, when Ford replaced Agnew as VP, there was a deal made that he would pardon Nixon in case of Nixon's resigning. That's a little far to think the GOP would have planned.

@Paul4747 I don't think it was an actual quid pro quo, more of a gentlemen's agreement to make it go away as quickly as possible?

Why are you describing Ford as a snowflake. I find conservatives cry and whine as much as the liberals. There's enough crying towels to go around for everybody.

Hopefully he would have said the same.

Friend of mine's take which sounded fairly plausible--- I'm guessing he wouldn't have overtly supported it but if asked his opinion, might have said something like, "Colin is entitled to express his feelings as he sees fit. But I'm a Lions fan."
