I think I can relate to you. I live in a Muslim country. Her being an atheist or agnostic is a social stigma. So I keep my views to myself except with few closed friends who either in same situation with or those who understand me. Good luck

Welcome to the site. Come here often and get to know people here so you can keep your sanity. I don't volunteer much information about myself as my neighborhood, and the area are saturated with religious people. I've found it's best not to reveal to much if one wants to live in peace. Good luck to you.

I usually just don't say anything , but sometimes I can't help it.

Honesty, cander, and patience. Besides that, mostly avoid confrontation. Nobody likes their beliefs challenged and will tend to get very defensive very quickly. When that happens, the ears shut and the mouth gets loud and it typically ends in illtempers and gossip. Good luck, tread lightly and Welcome to the site, your safe here!

I generally deal with people using logic and reason and if that doesn't work see Sgt_Spankys last sentence. WELCOME!

Welcome!
I don’t have to deal with religion at work much - typically I just keep my mouth shut 🤐

Hi, welcome. I also live in a Conservative Christian town in Oregon. I work from home, so I don't have any issues on that front. But, I certainly find myself cringing a lot and holding my tongue--especially around family members. I have this place as an outlet, as well as a secondary Facebook account where I can be myself--mostly, anyway.

I obey my instincts ... when the opportunity arises, I answer the challenge with "I'm sorry, but I'm not christian!" Most probably think that I mean: "I am of another religion." Until they get to know me better!

It is very hard. I lived and brought up my children in one of the most conservative towns in NH. I still teach there. I basically keep my mouth shut unless I know I am in a safe spot (very few and far between). It's compounded triple times because I do not have tenure yet either. I've worked there 16 years but just the last 4 as a teacher. All I can suggest is try and find one or two people that you can speak freely with and let this community as you said be your safe place.

In my first job I was hired by a progressive who was eventually transferred and replaced by a conservative and my coworkers ran the gamut. Fortunately I grew up a military brat and had experience adapting to many situations. I think you have to test the waters from time to time but if the job is necessary you may want to lay low during stressful times. There were days I couldn’t take it and I spoke my mind though, because in the end, they can’t fire you for difference of opinion. They can find other excuses however and coworkers can make things miserable but if your lucky, you’ll have allies in there too who will be less fanatical about their beliefs. In these times I’m careful about what I say around trumpeters in higher positions than I. I don’t trust their ability to be fair and I remind myself of Underground tactics, or simply just being kind, like Mr. Rogers would say, because I think he’s the perfect answer to this current craziness we all face right now. Just my two cents.

Very simple ,I keep my mouth SHUT!

My advice is to keep both religion and love affairs out of the workplace. I never discuss religion with people who are not family or close friends.

However, when you don’t discuss it, they figure that you are a “non believer.”

@woodstar So?

@wordywalt, I was just saying, no problem.

I’ve been lucky so far. About a year ago we moved 700 miles and I didn’t know anybody in the neighborhood. My next door neighbor invited me over to play cards every Tuesday night. He seemed like a nice guy so I said yes. The first day I walked in the house there were crosses, angels, and religious pictures everywhere! Oh shit! I got there early so my new neighbor and I sat down and talked. He said he was raised catholic but he was not into it! My wife is really into it though. When he asked if I was religious I told him I’m just like you, not into it. The five other guys are his family and he must have told them I’m like him because they never say anything. His wife comes down and says hi and that’s it! I’m lucky I guess! I was afraid we were going to have prayer meetings!

I'm lucky - I live in a deep blue intellectual community. I find life as an agnostic very tolerably. I am not a "contest your position atheist." I'm like open to information. Tell me why I should believe in God and I fucking will - no one nor anything has given me a sufficient reason so well hell I'm open to information - bring it on but don't bore me!

I do feel for you. Be careful in some respects but in others let folks know that you just don't accept their position. You don't have to state that you don't believe unless you don't have a choice. Don't lie but don't let your beliefs compromise your situation. Just do iT! And make the best of it!

I don't hide who I am or what I believe. There were times at my previous workplace where I would butt heads with some of my coworkers. Hey, if they can be open about what they believe, so can I.

I can't say I ever "suffered" because of it, as I mostly kept to myself anyway.

They don’t hate or dislike you lol, relax.

Welcome. I had to live in the Midwest for awhile. I dealt with it at work by smiling and nodding a lot. Mostly held my tongue. But here, say whatever you want!
