Dorian. In an article about Florida residents preparing for the hurricane one guy said, among the things they are doing, "We are people of faith. We went to the church to pray," Scott said.
Why is it so hard for people to understand that if the hurricane is god's plan then praying won't help because their fate is decided and if god is all powerful then it created the hurricane and why pray to something that creates destruction and hardship, not to mention death. It's no different than praying to the mass shooter that they don't shoot you. That's my rant, I return you to your regularly scheduled program already in progress

They went to church and prayed....that it would go somewhere else and kill OTHER people! Looks like it worked. Latest projections have it heading for the Carolinas....Now THOSE people need to go back to church and PRAY, to send it back to those f^cking bastards in FLORIDA!! It's a battle of the prayers! Ain't "god" wonnerful!? Now if he'd let me win the lottery! JUST ONCE! Wait, I DID win $2.00 recently...That doesn't count, God! THAT DOESN'T COUNT!

Logic And Humor … so how are both so lost on β€œthem” πŸ˜€

Come on... Dorian is the devil's work!

Like my dad used to say... wish/pray in one hand and shit in the other and see which one fills up quicker!

I'd love Dorian to level Mar-o-lago.....

Mate ... You are reasoning like a normal person. Believers cannot follow you.

Yep, as I have learned, "You can lead a horse to water BUT you cannot make it drink," so it goes with the Faithfools in that " You lead them to Reason BUT you cannot make them think."

I don't know when these guys are going to stop praying and smell the roses. We, humans have evolved over a few million years. These god books are there for a few thousand if not a 1000, we don't know. These gods haven't arrived yet to console those faithful one's. It's time for those faithful one's to realise all these religions were orchestrated to control mankind from living normal lives. It's a money making business, like any other business only that religion has messed with people's mind's and their lives. It's just brainwashing!

I agree, praying doesn't work, neither does god. I'm putting my trust in weather satilites. and doppler radar, that hurricane in 1906 the Galveston, Texas.one. that was one of the worst in history, they didn't even have radar back then, they didn't even know it was comming, they didn't even have time to pray, It wouldn't have worked anyway.

4

Seeking any kind of logic, regarding religion and prayer , is sure to disappoint !

I'm so tired of hearing people offering prayer as a cure for every conceivable event, problem, or issue !

4

Your statement is logical and rational. Alas, a person who is afflicted with religious belief cannot think rationally about his godly delusions. You are dealing with an addict who will do almost anything to hold on to his beliefs.

4

The problem now is that as the track moves further to the east and Florida may be spared the religious nuts who prayed will take credit for it. LOL

When churches are destroyed and people die it was part of gods plan. So why do we rebuild churches that god WANTED destroyed? Why does god have to kill animals in a storm in order to kill babies? Why does god want to kill babies? Why is god more concerned about me playing with myself than the preservation of life? Ooh to hell with it I don't want answers to tthese questions. Anyway, god is going to too busy to answer them as I think I will go play with myself rather than worry about it.

Many Jews, Muslims; and very, very few christians realize that the only prayers that are not sinful are those in praise of God. All prayers that ask for something are an insult to God, his plan, and his omniscience. And they are worthless " 'cuz God gonna do, what God gonna do!"

3

Absolutely!
This reminds me of the woman who was going to go out into Tampa Bay, last year, and "pray away" whatever hurricane that was. I do not know that she got into the bay, in her row-boat, and, yes, that storm did not follow the predicted path right into Tampa and St. Petersberg.
I've heard nothing about her this time out, but the storm seems about to skirt the east coast, rather than cross the peninsula. Reportedly, over the last 200 years, only 19 hurricanes have hit central Florida.
when people live in a bubble of delusion about how the world works, they can develop all sorts of new fairy tales!

Yes, I heard someone on the radio - an emergency manager - saying that maybe their prayers could turn Dorian North. I think that's really divination. Not much more sophisticated than what the tribal Shaman's practice.

Silly superstitions and then the other problem is that if they don't die they'll "thank the Lord." It is a vicious cycle of superstition and stupidity.

I love this logic. Pray hard enough, and God will send the hurricane towards other people. A battle of prayers.

3

Some folks around here were praying for Dorian to miss our area, and sure enough, he/she seems to be turning north, toward that vipers nest of heathens along the east coast. β€’β€’PRAISE THE LORD**!

3

That's the hypocrisy of believers, they say they are praying so others won't suffer, but the reality is they pray because it makes them feel good about themselves because they are doing something about it, never mind prayer won't do shit to the hurricane which at the end will go where it will go despite whatever they pray for. At the end if people don't die or if the hurricane doesn't hit florida directly, they will be foolishly convinced it was because of their prayers, ifvthe opposite happens, they attribute it to god's will. Their sick minds never lose.

I'm pretty sure religion doesn't depend on people's ability to do logical reasoning for its survival.

@jerry99 and you would be right.

It is all circular thinking, devoid of logic, devoid of the possibility that they can recognize their idiocy for what it is. They were fed the crap along with breast milk, and very few can ever question it.

3

Maybe it's like if you are friendly enough with Charlie Manson you can get him to take his family next door to the LaBianca place instead of killing you and your family?

Well then prayer is a good thing? 😁

@lerlo, not if you're the next door neighbor.

@mcgeo52 why? each person down the street gets to pray the same way until they run out of houses

@lerlo, or until they get to a heathen.

That is the theory. In practice it's not always the heathens that die.

Oh, well, another theory shot to hell.

2

I could not agree more. I have often wondered about this. I would say it's just a lack of critical thinking.

2

As I ever so often would remind/tell my Born Again Xrstian, Evangelist neighbor, "Praying to God to ask God for ANYTHING at ALL is totally futile since, according to the Goat-herders Guide to the Galaxy, aka the bible, God's plan for everyone and everything IS absolutely Immutable and therefore CANNOT be changed EVER."
But I would also remind him that as an Atheist, like myself, he COULD have the ability, IF he had the will and inner strength as well, HE could work at changing this in his life and destiny to the better.
Now, since he has been AWOL for over 6 months at least, so to speak, I find out that he is now residing in an Institution that deals with SEVERE Mental Disturbances, undergoing Drug Rehabilitation Therapies and most likely facing being Scheduled for Suicidal/Dangerous Obsessions with Knives and other sharp objects and threatening others with them.
The old saying, " There ARE NONE so blind as they who refuse to see, there are NONE so deaf as they who refuse to see" rings ever so true in his case I think.

Well. if what's happening on this planet is gods will, then he/she's a sadistic bastard. What's the sense of tormenting half the population of this planet?

2

Nice rant. Great logic. Funny conclusion. Thanks for sharing.

2

Good rant

2

This is in the same realm as human sacrifice in order to gain good favor and have good crops. We will make change happen by killing an innocent. Oh, wait! God already did that in the bible. Now all we have to do is pray that he will change his mind. If the prayer does not work you were not holding your tongue right and standing on one leg. Maybe you had some hidden sin.

2

Not to mention that the legislature had officially not allowing global warming to be mentioned or discussed . Allows developers to open burn the trees the cut down, especially when most of state isn't that much above sea level, some cities flood regularly with storms. Maybe Karma more than a diety

A friend of mine was hospitalized after a stroke. A megachurch sent people to pray over her. They came and went, but I was there every day. After my friend got better they claimed it was their prayers that did it, and told her she needed to start giving 10% if her meager income to their church.

You should have told her your presence did it and you'd do it for 5% or whatever deal you could make πŸ™‚ Glad she recovered.

Thanks for reminding me about 'god's plans'. I just read something I will post that addresses this ides.

I always loved this clip of Jeff Dee. He gets more and more worked up in exactly all the right ways.
