I’m very thankful for the electoral college as without it we’d had Al Gore and crooked Hillary.

@ToolGuy So you think that nut Al Gore would have been better? George W Bush definitely made a mistake by taking out Sadam as that allowed the Shiites to obtain power along with increased Iranian influence.

Without the electoral college system a president could be elected with a plurality rather than an outright majority .I think this is the most important reason for retaining this system.

The Electoral college is loathed depending on the electiion.Sure other nations have other electoral systems but few are as Geographically massive Or demographically diverse as the United States. The Original point of the electoral college was to establish the role of the president.Congress is the voice of the people and so is directly elected by the people .The President is the leader of a federation of Independent states and should be elected by those states. That’s the philosophical grounding of the notion.First off, rural voters would not matter in any way shape or form. The people who grow our food in Iowa would not matter. The electoral college forces candidates to make serious decisions in resource allocation and to Coordinate large groups of geographically dispersed people.

Well said

Obama carried the US popular vote in 2012 as well as the electoral vote.
