Not really. Some beers are priced deliberately expensive to satisfy a "beer snob" market. The only other major price factor is rising tax on the alcoholic strength. But if you're drinking for enjoyment, as opposed to a desire to be drunk, why waste money?
a pissy beer even at the regular price.

I cannot comment as I've never tried it. However that reminds me of the saying "Please don't take the piss out of our beer - it needs all the flavour it can get".
