This village sucks! Just found out that the grocery store will be closing. It's been for sale, but now sold. Gonna be a fitness center. If we can't even keep a fucking grocery store open, how is this gonna work? Got two churches and a religious school tho. SMH

Wow... I leave for the day and everyone goes spastic! lol

OP... I can identify with your ORIGINAL post. That is why I built a huge pantry in my house. The next thing I am going to buy is a good size freezer. And it is just me out here. It is nice to have stuff on hand if you don't have a corner store nearby!

Costco is a life saver! Not uncommon for me to spend hundreds there. Once I spent about $1500. Rarely had to go anywhere to get anything!

That's s shame. Rural life can be a challenge. Some of the comments are interesting, many, it seems, do not have a clue what a village of 700 residents is even like. I know what you mean about the USPS, there is no over night delivery in many places. My letters go 30 miles away and then come back 30 miles before being loaded into the truck for the postman to deliver.
I miss Seattle but only if I hit the Lotto could I afford to move back there. Ellensburg is much bigger than where you are. Have you thought about moving?

This is obviously God's plan! He is saying you eat too much and you need to work out!

That wasn't hard at all! 😉

That tends to be village life. None of the advantages of life in the town, none of the advantages of life in the country, but most of the downsides of both. You remember Aesop wrote the "Town mouse and the Country Mouse" all those years ago, back in the days of the Roman Empire, but he never bothered to include the village mouse.

Much the same here. I grew up in a small village in NE Scotland which had three shops a filling station a post office and for a spell a pub. Now all of those have gone. The village I now live in has a two shops. I regularly buy some groceries from them although it is more expensive than the supermarket in town.

Amazon.com, baby

Fresh cows milk must work good on that...

I order a lot from Amazon and have had Amazon Prime for years. But I am trying to wean myself off after seeing John Oliver's report on how bad the working conditions are at their fulfillment centers. Their breaks are monitored and their production micro-measured.

Now every time I order I just think about a guy or gal who REALLY needs to go to the bathroom that can't because they have to get my order in! 😉

@RiverRick I have worked in factories & mills all my life. The machinery kept running, it was up to the workers to keep up! The "horrible conditions" are a figment of white-collar workers standing around water coolers, who have never had an idea of what actual work is. I am part of a huge community of work/camp RVers, they work as needed to be able totravelfull-time in their RV) and I can tell you, Amazon Fulfillment centers are considered highly desirable employers, not only for the money, but also the clean, safe conditions.

@AnneWimsey They are clean and safe for the most part. And they do pay, though it's tough to live on what they pay alone... At least in this part of the country. I know a few people that work at the center that is south of me. They are monitored for production by the second! I couldn't imagine that. I turn off the GPS on my phone just so my employer (or anyone else) can't track me. I couldn't imagine working my day and having a production percentage constantly displayed that I had to stay above or risk being put on report by my supervisor.

@TheGreatShadow if you want fresh cows milk, get a cow. the idea that people could live rural but not have to sustain themselbves was short lived. welcome back to the era of your grandparents

@MarkiusMahamius 5th generation farmer. Manage 4 farms...

@TheGreatShadow so get a cow. its better milk anyhow

@MarkiusMahamius Dairy farm down the road...

@TheGreatShadow not clear on why youre complaining about amazon not shipping fresh milk. but its clear you don't ike the way america is changing. good or bad, its a common sentiment

@MarkiusMahamius they ship "Parmalot" whole, 2%, 1%, chocolate. needs no refrigeration until opened. I use it in my RV all the time.

@MarkiusMahamius, @RiverRick "monitored for production"....in the cotton mill the machines had not been shut off, ever, since 1894, when they were installed. Keep up or get out of the way!

@MarkiusMahamius, @RiverRick, @TheGreatShadow and so, your problem is....liking to bitch?

@MarkiusMahamius, @RiverRick, @TheGreatShadow Negative Nancy, you are.......Parmalot.

honestly single occupancy vehicles are a scrouge, delivery services are far more efficient and will likely offer healthier choices as well

What kind of delivery services do you think we have in a village of under 700 people? This is not NYC.

@TheGreatShadow youre about to find out. UPS and the USPS go most places. You won't get same day delivery.

@MarkiusMahamius Are you on drugs? If I put a letter in the mail to another person in the village, it goes 80 miles each way to either Omaha, or Lincoln. Then comes back here. That is cost effective! How did you get on this tangent anyways, and why do I bother to reply?

@TheGreatShadow he is talking about grocery delivery services like Peapod, Target, Stop & Shop or even through regular mail, there are lots & lots of them...most will go up to 50 miles or so for $5, and bring the groceries into your kitchen & place them on the counter.
Could you knock off going ballistic on every thread, maybe? Highly inappropriate, especially when people are trying to be helpful, and makes us wonder (or hope!) when you are getting a meds adjustment!

@AnneWimsey Ballistic? How so? If you think my posts are close to offensive, you could not comprehend what I have been through...

@TheGreatShadow "what you have been through" (because the rest of us have lived totally quiet, serene lives!) in no way entitles you to be rude & offensive. Ever. Get help. And MarkiusMaximus too!
