Are you guys watching Ken Burns Country Music on PBS? I'm not a fan of country, but I grew up with my dad being a truck driver from Tennessee and all he listened to was the old original country. This show has been great.
not a huge C&W fan but i've always enjoyed some of the singer/songwriters. no doubt in my mind that Hank Williams had a rare gift.
Yes. I'm not strictly a country music fan, but i am a huge Hank Williams Sr fan, and episode 3 was mostly about him. A few historical errors, but then I have every biography of him. I like the way Burns interweaves the various musical genres and the influences between them. It's too easy for some to overlook the complex connections.(Elvis appeared on the Opry and was a flop!? Well, he didn't need them. And Elvis and Johnny Cash toured together in the early days!? Dang, didn't know that. ) On the downside I do think this documentary lacks depth and wider social and economic context which quality history gives. It's a bit of what we call scissors and paste history, but then again modern audiences often don't appreciate depth, class analysis and so on. Finally, I have no time for modern Nashville and its nonsense. Were the Great Hank to return now, I believe he'd agree.
Hank the 3rd definitely agrees with you about modern Nashville.
My partner has watched it, and raves about the entire show.
I walk through the tv room and observe parts of the show, which does look quite interesting to me.
I just too busy planning many preparing for a conference I'm involved in, and don't have enough energy and time to stop what I'm doing to watch. Otherwise, yes.
