Constitutional Originalists--who argue for the electoral college, for the right to bear any kind of arms, and against the rights of women and LGBTQ people--seem to me very much like religious Fundamentalists (who argue for some of the same things). Fundamentalists claim to be privy to the original and literal meanings of the Bible, and that those original literal meanings are the best and only instructions for leading a good life. Originalists claim to know the same about the US Constitution and the intent of our "Founding Fathers."

All these groups use the word "original' to make their ideas seem legitimate. Most can see it's simply a way of pushing their self-serving beliefs on the rest of us.

My question is: how can someone say they are biblical originalists seem to forget the bible is full of parables, translations and multiple versions. The Constitution is also open to interpretation and it is written on paper not stone.

Nice analogy, the one thing we know for sure and for certain - the Revolution was fought and the Constitution was written to get out from under the British rule. It was well thought out and over time there have been amendments as technology and society changed. The FFs knew shit happens, things change and the Constitution has to grow with it population. Women and LGBTQ+ existed at the time the FFs wrote this amazing document they simply did not think they were relevant/worthy. That so many on the SC are male is a huge problem.

But some of that we do know about the US Constitution, from the Federalist papers, and I think other writings of the Founding Fathers. However, that doesn't inform us how those people would think about contemporary issues in relation to the Constitution, but these originalists assert what the Founders would say about such issues.

Sounds like it’s a fairly accurate comparison to make.
