JOHN PAVLOVITZ, a religious man who is nonetheless, right, on the right side, and righteous, even to we atheists - and note, this was last year - it has only become more true.

I follow John Pavlovitz on FB also because he's so right on frequently... I don't find him overbearing on religion or preachy.

This 2018 article is typical of his clearheaded thinking... And so right on again!

I follow John Pavlovitz on FB. I like him and find some material to use in discussion with family. My lack of belief in god is not from anger, but lack of evidence esp concerning religious people's inability to get along with people.

Excellent and I,, for one, am paying particular attention to the part: "it also isn’t a test to see if we can manufacture the same hatred and vitriol for them as they dispense toward us. We must not become like them through our words and deeds.

I like John Pavlovitz, he is frequently right.

Ambiguity, Fear, Hatred, Loathing, Indifference, Self-aggrandizing, etc, etc, ARE, in my opinion, both the mainstays of religion and POLITICS, we, as Human Beings would be well rid of them all in both Politics and religion.
Yes, that 'horse' has been long dead, flogged to death in fact, and is rotting away under their feet, let it rest, start thinking anew and MAKE this world of OURS a better place.

I guess he is just advocating democracy. True, not everyone can see the other point of view so a vote stands firm for our opinions. I think he is repeating Hillary's judgment that these people who don't share our point of view are deplorables. But more than that - he is saying that he has approached them on so many levels and they have fallen short on each one of them. Isn't that truly deplorable? And there seems no reason to believe that when the time comes to vote again, that all these right-minded folk will out-vote the deplorables. Maybe it's time to get off the high horse and listen to the other side.

No, I just couldn't go along with that. It just smacked of appalling arrogance and moral superiority to me.

How about getting a fact straight. Hillary did NOT say that anyone who has a different view is a "deplorable' nor that all of tRUMPf's supporters were deplorable. She said "half" of those who supported him belonged in a basket full of deplorables; and she was referring to the truly deplorable who supported tRUMPf: the racists, white supremacists, etc. And, now, given he has shown his true, disgusting, heartless, greedy, anti-democracy, theocracy promoting, colors, I cannot see how any decent person can still support him.

Lol Of course it might be. But you must agree that deciding things by a democratic majority doesn't always give us the right answer.

Hillary’s denunciation of some of Trump’s supporters is moot now that so many of his supporters who she might categorise as non-deplorable shared the same political views as their deplorable fellow-citizens and were motivated by her contempt to be more strongly in favour of Trump. And this support may well carry Trump into a second session as president. This would mean that the non-deplorable Trump supporters continue to support his political agenda. That leaves the question as to how someone anti-Trump might be unable to see how this can happen. I suggest that this ‘blindness’ is the result of an arrogant, morally superior attitude that I mentioned in my last comment and it might pay to drop the attitude and try to communicate. If the preacher is right that communication won’t work, well then it’ll take numbers of votes to change things.

He is 100% correct in his reasoning. For the person below who called this a "divisive and hateful rant", YOU sir are part of the problem. Continue supporting the people Mr. Pavlovich is talking about and see how many here you can convince. The Conservative group is where you should post your poison.

One of the most sensible voices I have heard come out of America for some while!

A divisive and hateful rant if I’ve ever seen one, it exemplifies what is wrong with our political climate. One side has set itself up as paragons of intellectual and moral superiority, and it proceeds to demonize and stereotype and to dehumanize anyone not in its camp.

The guy says he’s been trying mightily to educate the ignorant, racist, conservatives. I guess there are just too many of us and he has given up. With such an ego driven attitude I can see why he has been ignored.

What is needed is a true leader who knows there is not just one correct side, who has both liberal and conservative values, and who is motivated by a desire to serve, a leader who is respectful of everyone.

Wow...were we both reading the same text?

@Allamanda I understood that...and I agree with him. My remarks were directed at Mr Fleming who described what Pavlovitz said as a divisive and hateful rant...which to me seemed far from that, more like a reluctant recognition that there was no way of deflecting the hard right from their course by any use of reason.

2

Not because he's religious that he would a bad person or without sense of logic. I haven't read the whole text but, of what I read, it seems to me that he's quite disheartened with the state of the US and the world in general. I don't blame him.

@Allamanda, if I misunderstood the text, thanks for correcting me.

The biggest impediment to defeating DJT is the Democrats' embracement of the regressive leftist narrative and agenda.

@Allamanda
Antisemitism, collectivism, intersectionality, open borders, group identity, opposition to meritocracy, equality of outcome as opposed to equality of opportunity, promotion of Islam, to list a few.

@Allamanda, @Wangobango3
This might interest you.

@Allamanda "The Squad", who are poised to hijack the Democratic / Liberal agenda.

@Wangobango3 Yes, Amerikka where IF you haven't got 'Health Insurance' you ARE virtually STUFFED, yet almost every other Western Country HAS a Universal Health Scheme that works, maybe not PERFECTLY, BUT it does work, and, more often than not, works very well.
So WHY does Amerikka still adhere to that archaic system, in my opinion, it IS simply because of its rampant Commercialism attitude that the 'holy' dollar rates more worth than a human life which is, in my opinion, blatantly obvious given the rantings and ravings of the N.R.A. over Gun Control and the horrific losses of lives, both young and old, from recent senseless Massacres in the U.S.

Perhaps the 'motto' on Amerikkkan money should be changed to read " In GUNS we trust and LIVES we are willing to waste" instead of the "In God We Trust" bullshit.

This subthread is disappointing. The Democrats' doubling down on leftism will ensure a DJT/GOP victory in 2020.

@PBuck0145 No, in my opinion as an Aussie, the Amerikkkan willingness to hang on their firearms for absolutely NO Logic reason at all and stand by and watch all these senseless massacres occur IS DISAPPOINTING to say the VERY LEAST.
Here, we decided THAT ONE death from an IDIOT with a grudge and a gun was ONE death far too many, at least that makes us, in the opinion of many, including myself, a Nation WITH a Humanitarian Heart and Mind, not like some that I will refrain from naming.

Well said. His heart and mind seem to be in a good place.
