Nice touch of tongue in cheek. I love it!! Word meanings change and evolve, getting one's knickers in a knot over the word spiritual has to be about the love of the argument. There really are much bigger things to get bound up about.

I usually get my spiritual feelings from a bottle of gin. (Not a joke, it is quite literally true, that both usages have the same root. And certainly in the past some people believed that drunkenness was literally a form of spiritual possession. Whether that is true of the Last Supper metaphor, is something for fools, sorry serious theologians, to argue about.)

My father was Italian and my mother , who I never met , was Greek . I grew up in both countries and I speak both .
Not once I have used , or anybody else , including schools and universities , the word " ενθουσιασμός " to describe gods .
The word in speaking Greek translates exactly to " I am excited ". Nobody knows or cares if comes from godly reference .
Είμαι πολύ ενθουσιασμένη , πάω διακοπές "!
I am very excited , leaving for vacation !
If u tell any Greek person that means gods of any type , they will look at u like u have 3 eyeballs .
No doubt the etymology is correct , although not clicking in every day speaking Greek .
Lastly , y is the point of this , I am missing it . To prove that spiritual means what ?
Do u know that there are about 60 shades of white at the paint shop ? And some people won't paint their walls white , period . Personally I won't live in a White House if u were giving it to me for free . Spiritual triggers nausea for some folks . I am one of them . Won't vomit on the spiritual persons lap , won't argue , but I have the option to leave .

Ack! I use variations of the word enthusiasm quite a lot, and have never intended the archaic meaning of being possessed by gods! Oh well, I will continue to use the word in the ways I've always understood it to mean.

My daughter is has a knack for creating enthusiasm for seemingly mundane things, so I guess she is a "divine gift" to all around her, and since I brought her into this world, I guess that makes me God! Well, in any case, I'll stick to the secular meaning.

I think language may have changed a tad since we spoke all Latin and/or Greek, for one example, the way we use the word "gay" as opposed to just a few decades ago.
So I do not think modern usage of "enthusiasm" drags in much, if any, religious overtones, and hasn't for quite awhile.

The words expiration and inspiration are off limits too, because they come from the same root as the word spirit.
