The nation wasted the major economic recovery, according to a new report by Harvard Business School on U.S. competitiveness.
“We had this wonderful recovery. It could have given us the chance to take some significant resources and devote them to some of our well-known challenges, like infrastructure or health care...none of that happened. Instead, we squandered a major economic recovery and didn’t use it to make things better,” said Harvard Business School professor Michael Porter, a co-author of the study.
Did we waste this opportunity on tax cuts on the 1% and large corporations?
Thing is you don't have to be a financial whiz to see this. To these people it's all about short term gain. Their motto is "Damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead." Of course, in the end, the rest of us on the ship will have to pay.
I think plain greed is a factor.
@rogueflyer INteresting thing about greed. I remember a survey once done where people of different economic levels were asked what percentage raise would they need to be satisfied. The results showed that the higher one is on the income scale the more (higher percentage) they feel they need to break even. It's kind of like 2 footitis when one owns a boat.
@JackPedigo Yes, once you have more than you need you need big increase to make a difference. You might need a gold toilet.
@rogueflyer It used to be trying to keep up with the Jones' but now it's keeping up with the Gates'.
‘We’ gave it away…. We had dreams, some more attainable than others, but in the end, too many sat on their hands, blew their opportunity ..and allowed evil to spend it. They did!
Must admit, I at least got something from the bush jr/ republican tax shifts … but not this time.. Wonder if we’ll will sit back and let it happen again
Me too. Got a lower fed tax rate but the state tax cap cost me.
What does he think we squandered it on?
I think she felt it was squandered on tax cuts for corporations and the one percent.
Good question. Thank you for article reference! When I read the quote “May you live in interesting times” I think we are there
Yes, I think you're right.
