In a couple of my Amazon books I mention the danger of a self-fulfilling prophesy. Hitler, for instance, predicted the invasion of Russia in Mein Kamp back in the late '20s.

The present danger is that both major religions believe in the Second Coming of Christ or the Holy Prophet. So they're self-fulfilling the prophesy by over-breeding like bacteria and polluting the planet 'til it's unfit to support life. At the end of it all they'll say, "You see. It was God's will."

Wrong bible breath, there must be a 1st coming b4 a 2nd coming can be faked like the first back into history on the backdated fake calendar....China has enforced a one child policy and are not breeding like rats in Vatican controlled lands.....Fukishima and pollution is already reducing life expectancy.....however a billion people will either drown or invade inland as ocean levels are rising so armies will have concentration camps for them that will make our border patrol look like paradise for kids 2day

Heaven and God is just a fairytale and people use it to just control and let their lives go to hell really. They are the meanest people on earth as far as I am concerned and if it not their way than its no way. I am so glad to be free of all the nonsense that was put on me as a child and young adult.

Right on. You're not the only one.

You should read an old book by Leon Festinger entitled WHEN PROPHESY FAILS.

Hey, they've been 'predicting ' the Second Coming for the last 2,000 years BUT it has never happened just all of these predictions of Armageddon and the Rapture have been a 100% bust.
According to the ORIGINAL scriptures in the Goat-herders Guide to the Galaxy ( not those in the modern, over embellished versions that are so proliferated these days btw) the 'Messiah' "PROMISED to return WITHIN the Life Span of the 12 Apostles, tear down the Temple and erect a new Temple in 3 days."
Well, it has been far, far longer than the average Life Span of ANY human being living in the B.C.E or C.E. times and yet this Mighty Messiah and Savior is still very noticeable by his absence.
Kind of says a whole lot about all of this " You see, it was God's will" doesn't it?

My point is that these people are destroying the Earth and will eventually say it was God's will. If you believe your house was going to be razed you wouldn't take care of it.

can you tell me the other major religion that believe this fairy tale? I know one is Christianity but what is the other one. this is a serious question.

@powder I happen to be Jewish secular I don’t believe in fairy tales but you are totally wrong about what you stated. I have read the Torah and nowhere do they believe in Armageddon or Jesus as the messiah and s econd coming stuff. I do not know much about Islam.

The Hold Prophet is Mohamed. I'm not that familiar with the Koran but I'm pretty sure it's in there. As some Mohammedan you might know.

@powder I don't think the Jews believe in Armeggedon.
That comes from the New Testament's Book of Revelations (which almost didn't make the cut for inclusion in the first place).

It has been speculated by folks with much more knowledge on the subject than I that the figure of Jesus was shoehorned into the so-called prophecies of the messiah myth in order to make it seem to have come true. I don't think that's what's happening with this climate ordeal, of course. Most of us know it's really just a lesson in how not to poop in one's own dog dish. I estimate that you're right, though, that certain people will see it as evidence of God's divine plan.

Ain't it divine?

It's so sick it makes me cry, especially what we're doing to the animals. Belief in this stupid religion is the worse thing that could have happened because it divorced humans from nature.

If you click this link you can see who has been predicting the return of Jesus.

Sounds about right.

In the Book of Revelation Jesus says he will come "QUICKLY." 2000 years have passed....so much for "Quickly." I think Jesus is dead and will never come back.

I think they were referring to premature ejaculation

@bklynite53 I’ve been there a couple of times myself !!😂 just saying..

@Outsideit67 LOL. haven’t we all

Judaism is still waiting for the first.

And Eastern minds think it’s a strange idea and don’t give a shit one way or the other!

Don’t get where population fits into your hypothesis.

I was talking about the end of the world as predicted in Revelation -- The Second Coming of Christ. If you believe it, it makes no sense to protest this world. I didn't check the stats but I think it's about 30% of Christians believe they will be alive for the wonderful event: The Rapture.

@Aristippus Hardly 30% of Christians The Rapture is a specifically American idea developed by John Darby of The Plymouth Bretheren around 1830s. Then there is Dispensationalism and pre-dispensationalism to take into account!.

@Aristippus The Rapture isn't in the New Testament either.

@Storm1752 Exactly

All prophecy is self fulfilling. It isn't actual prophecy, so only people trying to bend history to its fulfillment, can even possibly cause its "fulfillment".

The notion of a great final battle between good and evil is an archetype that people would like to see fulfilled because it validates their simplistic binary view of reality. Trumpism is itself an expression of this "burn it all down so we can build something far better atop the rubble" ethos. What remains unknown is how far they will get and how much human suffering they will cause in the process of getting that far. And thanks to the climate crisis, whether there will be a world worth living in when we finally draw back from (or recover from) the brink.

Good post. I agree. I wrote an essay once about "dichotomous thinking." Just in the first book of the Bible, there are many instances. "Good or Evil," night or day, sin or virtue, human or animal, plant or animal (all living creatures have the same genetic code), male or female, pastor or sheep, etc. It makes thinking easier -- friend or foe.
So what do we get out of it? An imbecile president who says "You're either with us or with the enemy."

In Evangelical Christianity it is widely believed that Gog and Magog as mentioned in the bible is Russia. I'm here today to tell you that your bible says nothing of Russia, and it also says nothing of the USA.

And, ironically, it was taught in these churches that Russia would be allied with Satan and the Beast. And, who do we see allying themselves with Russia, via tRUMPf? Why, yes, these same Evangelical Christians who detested and feared Russia until tRUMPf came along.

@Joanne Reminds me of a favorite poem of mine.
Gog and Magog
Armgeddon did the Job

@Joanne That's what I was taught also. It's so trucked up that they cannot see the turn around here just to be able to feel good about Trump. It's insanity. How do they justify it?

@DenoPenno They simply focus on what they think he is doing to fulfill prophesy so Jesus will come back and destroy his/their enemies. And, many, watch ONLY Fox news and they never hear the full story.

When they read their Bible they can simply ignore/dismiss the bits that don't fit with their beliefs, or use twisted logic to try to make some sense of it. And, with tRUMPf, they can simply ignore that which they simply don't want to know, or excuse it away. After all, they believe in a literal Satan; and they think he is hard at work trying to combat the will of their god--it is so effing sad to see such ignorance in my own family.

@Joanne That sums it up well.

Yes, it has always been the way to blame others for your shortcomings as some ones else’s problem!

It is so easy to state it was god(s) will than except the fact there is nothing or no one else to blame, but others!!!

I don’t think people breeding has anything to do with the desire for the second coming of JC. If you look at recent data you will find that birth rates are going down, not up.

Hooray for that!

Just in the USA and Japan?

and that is a good thing

You have to look at the big picture. How about Nigeria or Indonesia?

@Aristippus Yes. God damn. Birth rates are up in some places but are overall, globally, going down. Is that big picture enough?

2

we are overbreeding

I agree, especially people who can’t afford to.

@Carey "Afford" to breed? Fun combination of words! 🙂

@Observer-Effect sometimes its a matter of can't afford birth control and so called Christians think they now have the right to control that for everyone
we need to teach our kids to consider many things while they are really too young to understand the ramifications they should discuss trying to go as green as possible biking and other means of transportation when possible and the number of kids they will have ... we do not teach our kids life skills

@Observer-Effect, @Carey maybe they can't afford birth control
you know years ago we gave free b control to third world countries like mexico and south America and Africa sounds racist but it wasn't really many Mexican women were glad to have it and not telling their macho hubbies that wanted them barefoot and pregnant was really working then the "Christians" stopped it ... of course anything that works is stopped by someone who thinks they have the right to decide for others ......b control and abortions should be free to anyone that wants them

@whiskywoman I agree with everything you’ve written.

Our species is rapacious you bet

@whiskywoman the Vatican denies 6 million women each year life saving abortions and/or deadly disease preventing condoms....both living popes should be jailed for life controlling the World Health Organization @ United Nations and raping millions of children the last hundred years

@Larry68Feminist agreed

Preferable to use the USSR, not Russia, as Russia was not all of the USSR.
Yes, self-fulfilling, as the Nazi leader intended to create a massive German empire absorbing Ukraine, Belarus, and Western Russia.

5

Of course. That's been a problem with it all along, among many other things; the whole concept of Armaggedon makes it what it's always been: a death cult.

You're absolutely right. Many monasteries have ostuaries in the back, revered bones they consider sacred. Do the stations of the cross. Death symbols all over the place. Principal color is purple and black.
