It's been said, "A person is forgotten after two generations." What happens to the photos of someone? Are they packed in a box & left to further die in a basement where the mold completely erases their memory? Or does a person end up just a name on a census? I suspect that such is the legacy of most.

I'm pretty sure I'll be forgotten after a couple of weeks. πŸ˜›

Most of us will be forgotten. If we have grandchildren they might retain a few hazy memories of us. It doesn’t matter at all IMO because our true essence is greater than our individual bodies. We have a brief sensation of being a separate individual self, but that sensation is an illusion. Beyond the world of sensations there is ultimate reality, shining forth forever. Forever because time itself is an illusion.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Since I had no children I will be forgotten pretty much right after I am gone.

Ditto. While all those nuns talked about how wonderful their afterlives would be, I imagined myself watching humankind and seeing what they were doing. β€˜Twon’t happen.

We’ve all been a footprint of mankind’s march toward somewhere.

Regardless of fading photos on the basement floor we have made our contribution.

Probably best leave it there

All to be forgotten.

I don't expect to be much remembered or remarked on ten years after I'm gone, to be honest.

It's not that unusual -- or, in my view, that consequential.

The value of my life to me consists in how much I'm enjoying / appreciating it. I am not trying to be immortal. After I'm gone I won't notice if I'm remembered or not. I'll be dead, after all. And I'm perfectly fine with that.
