During the last presidential election, I felt that if Trump was to be elected he would be an international embarrassment. Like many people, I didn't think he had a real shot. But then it happened.

For some time I maintained that although the president is in some ways the most powerful person in the world, nevertheless there are checks and balances and he could only do so much harm. We'd be fine. We'd get through it, as a nation, and perhaps learn from it.

He has turned out to be so much worse than I ever imagined possible. We will still get through it. We'll survive. But he is doing real damage and I'm truly worried about the future. What crazy thing will he do next?
