Something else we all need to be aware of.

This could go in multiple categories, so I'm just putting it right here.

I can tell you one thing for certain. There are going to be an awful lot of innocent people harmed by this.
There are far fewer people gaming the system than most people realize. Just like other assistance. The rich people are making it harder for poor people and disabled people.
I am beyond angry about this.

Betsy deVos is a criminal cunt and headed to prison for violating a Federal Judge ORDER to stop collecting for a closed fake school

Betsy deVos is stealing Veterans disability pension money by automatically converting our checks to SOCIAL SECURITY regular retirement checks.....our student loans were waived for decades but REINSTATED and garnished by deVos when we turned 67 AND ILLEGALLY GIVING OUR MONEY TO RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS defunding secular schools

I know. She's still taking my money, too. I can't get my student loan discharged, even though I have a demonstrated permanent disability.

@KKGator she committed felony perjury 2017 Senate confirmation hearings denying she was Vice President of AmWay schools run by her mom and is going to jail violating a Federal Judge order now for months collecting debts for a corrupt school ordered out of business

@Larry68Feminist Just another fucking swamp-dweller.

@KKGator she got her job quid pro quo for TrumpOLINI by delivering 3 million names addresses phone numbers and emails to the 2015 2016 campaign because AmWay owns the Medicare Medicaid contract in Michigan.... corrupt Congress does nothing about this fraud mega crime because Democrats do the same thing in other states

My late / prior wife had to jump through all sorts of hoops for years to get disability, and it was half what it would have been because her employer moved her to part time status for the last couple of years she was able to work without explaining that it would effect the basis of her benefits.

Then she went through the damned reviews every few years, which were time consuming and stressful.

All in all, I'd say the utility of the benefits were barely a wash with the downsides, the constant anxiety and humiliation. One of the things they would do is put you through a psychological evaluation to try to ascertain if you were simply depressed rather than ill. Very demeaning. And you went through it over and over and over.

One doctor saved her bacon with one review by saying in response to another doctor's observation that she seemed depressed, "of course she's depressed. Not clinically, but reactively to her situation. I'd be concerned about her mental health if she WASN'T reactively depressed."

Leave it to Trump to make a bad thing worse ...

I remember back when I first had to apply. They conducted a series of phone interviews because I was living in the sticks and couldn't get to one of the offices.
In any case, one of the interviewers asked me if I was depressed, in addition to being legally blind. I told her that of course I was, and asked her wouldn't she be a little depressed if she was losing her vision and had to go on disability?
No one ever asked me that question again.

Oh! I read about this and when they say this "The extra reviews will help “maintain appropriate stewardship of the disability program,” we all know it's bullshit. And while we're at it, where are the trillions of tax payer dollars that have gone missing since we invaded Iraq on the lie of the WMDs? UMMMMMMMMMMMM? Inquiring minds want to know!!

@K9Kohle789 Of course anyone paying attention knows there is no 2 party system both sides have worked together to consolidate money and power.

Moscow Mitch has wanted to decimate all of the Social Security programs for a long time. He must be having wet dreams.

MizJ Level 8 Jan 8, 2020

Paul Ryan started this bullshit years ago. McConnell took it up, with a vengeance when that coward "retired".

@KKGator And Faux News will garner support for all of the BS by calling it an Entitlement Program and claiming the system is overloaded by fraud.

makes a lot more sense to take the tax cuts away from corporations and the rich. and I reckon it's a lot more money. I bet we'd hear about it then. go Bernie!

That's just it. Between corporate welfare and all the government fraud (i.e. military contractors inflating prices for hammers, etc.), there would be more than enough money to provide full medical coverage and care for every single man, woman, and child in this country. AND still have enough left over to provide complete and total first-class education benefits from pre-K through graduate school, for everyone.

@KKGator blasphemy! you're talkin about a reduction in profits! what's the Wall Street guy going to do about the cigars paid for by the second mortgage the parents of the dying child used to pay the hospital bills. absurd to think this way when they're still a few bucks to squeeze from those that don't have anything.

@hankster I am quite fluent in blasphemy, of all kinds.
😉

@KKGator so am I. sometimes it feels like that's all we got.

I agree with you totally.

More attempts to 'stimulate' the economy by removing social programs paid by the government (us). Most of Europe have cradle to grave social services but then most Europeans pay a much higher income tax than we do (think about that when you support having a lowered tax). The only reason our economy is where it is is because so many safeguards have been removed. tRump doesn't care because he (thinks) he is set for life so screw everyone who is not rich. I fully believe if there were an effort to remove disability, Social Security and healthcare for the citizens of this country there would be a civil war and blood will be spilled. People go along with all kinds of crap if they feel secure. Take that away and watch out.
I have a disability from an accident while in the military. From year 1 to 5, I was re-diagnosed until the condition became permanent. Still, I wonder what kinds of things this administration will do to try and change all that.

Many people's conditions are going to be reassessed by NON-medical personnel. Very much like what for-profit insurance companies are already doing to millions of Americans right now.

There are going to be an awful lot of innocent people harmed by this.

Show me one of his policies where this isn't true....I'll wait.

So have they done a cost benifit analysis to see if this policy or getting into another war will save us more money/lives?

1of5 Level 8 Jan 8, 2020

I'm sure they haven't, and they won't.
They have zero interest in doing anything that would make any sense.

@KKGator the things they do make sense to them. Somehow. The answer to that is probably here, somewhere [dsm.psychiatryonline.org]

@1of5 I have zero interest in trying to understand why they do what they do.
I think it's all bullshit anyway. It all comes from a place of greed and darkness.
I don't believe for one second they're doing anything to "improve" anything.
They're targeting people who can't fight back. That's what they always do.
They're targeting people in need.
There is nothing remotely positive about any of this. No matter how they try to spin it.

@KKGator I agree for the most part, but I do want to understand it to best try and keep it from happening again. Trumps rise/popularity is frightening, especially since it appears to be cyclic in our civilization.

@1of5 For me, and I'm totally serious, it boils down to a whole lot of white people being very threatened by the fact they are no longer holding ALL the power. They're threatened by the fact that they (we) are becoming the minority.
It's also got A LOT to do with the unmitigated level of ignorance and hubris maintained by a lot of white people.

I get what you're saying, but I think the ONLY thing that's going to "cure" that is education. Which is something a lot of ignorant people are resistant to.

@KKGator no matter the skin colour, religious affiliation, economic status, culture, or sexual orientation, everyone wants to be in the majority because deep down, everyone knows we're all the same and the majority always finds ways to screw the minority - because people tend to blame thier problems on the things least like themselves.

Education in the form of exposure is about the only thing I think would work, but then we run into the "some people just fucking suck" rule and it reinforces thier prejudice.

This is why I drink and smoke. It's a flimsy excuse, but it works fr me.

@1of5 I had to quit both, and the only drugs I do now are the kind to keep me from dropping dead. I can't even find weed anymore.

I've had to take up angry bitchery full time.

@KKGator that sucks (not the keeping you alive part). Weeds been legal here for a few years and when I moved to Albuquerque I'd mail myself vape cartridges and edibles whenever I'd fly back up to see/help the folks.

I must say, you happen to be quite adept at it. From this side of the screen it's often a joy to watch. 🙂

@K9Kohle789 I don't understand any resistance to education. I don't want to be anywhere near anyone who doesn't wish to be educated.

@K9Kohle789 Yeah, plus they're generally big believers, too.
Pass.

We pretty much already have this in the UK, people on disability benefit are "reassessed" every year, two years, four years or six years, depending on the condition and the likelihood of improvement or recovery.
Even though my wife's conditions are incurable because a none medically qualified assessor decided last year that she had shown improvement we lost £100 a month in benefits, a month after that she was diagnosed with arthritis on top of everything else but cannot be reassessed for another five years.

That's terrible. I am so sorry.

I'm sorry, @LenHazell53, that's awful! Is there no way to challenge a decision? I know doing so here often takes an attorney, a cumbersome and expensive task.

Incidentally, the UK's punitive system (in which private companies have been given the role of deciding who does and does not qualify for disability benefit, and they of course strive for excellent performance - ie kicking people off disability benefit - so they get to retain the lucrative government contracts) is estimated to have led to 180,000 deaths.

@Jnei completely true

@Jnei, @KKGator @Lauren thank you all

I know people who are really disabled who have to keep proving it regularly as is.

I'm one of them, too.
