I went on a trip up north yesterday, to where I used to live. My ex boyfriend, who I was always complaining about, his father died. I had met his Dad, so I offered to go to the funeral with him, as I liked his dad. He had not talked to his dad in 20 years, for reasons i won't go into, but to say he was far from a perfect man.when he and his brother and 2 sisters were young. His dad reached out to him recently, trying to make good on past behavior, so he thought he should say his goodbye to him. I had to drive us there, in his truck, because as usual, he was drinking way too much. He complained about my driving, like always, and he wanted me to stay again tonight, because he did'nt want to be alone after his dad was put to rest. I told him no, as he would be drinking too much as usual, weather I was there or not, and since we always got into fights when we were both drinking, I left him there, same shit as always, just a different day, don't miss his bullshit one bit !

Good job setting healthy boundaries for yourself and finding balance between compassion and self-care. 🙂

It was good of you to make the effort even though you knew what the ex would be like. I would have probably done the same. Every person deserves compassion, faulted though they may be.

nice of you to drive him to the funeral in any case. some of that good karma stuff I guess.
