The UK does have an established religion. State schools are part of that (mine was C of E). Also, religious schools get state funding too. However, the upside is having them inside the proverbial tent. If they teach creationism over evolution or any other BS. They can lose their OFSTED rating and state funding.

"When I was young and they packed me off to school
And taught me how not to play the game
I didn't mind if they groomed me for success
Or if they said that I was just a fool
I left there in the morning
With their God under my arm
Their half-assed smiles and the book of rules
Well, you can excommunicate me on my way to Sunday school
And have all the bishops harmonize these lines . . ."

The fact that so many Brits have survived the CoE is not a sufficient reason in my mind to allow them that access to young minds.

@Davesnothere The C of E is an inoculation against religion. If the crazy woman on the video TimeOut ForMe commented happened in the UK. There is a good chance that it would not be cops but mental health workers taking her away. So unusual would it be to have anyone rant in such a way. Sure there are the odd High st bible thumpers and we get JWs knocking on the door. Yet they are met with polite indifference.
Politicians are wary of bringing their religious beliefs out in public. Unlike the US where they are trotted out like the wife, kids and family dog on the baby-kissing circuit.
The UK and US are very different countries with different ways of going about things. But have to say it was not until I joined this site, did I give my non-belief much thought at all.
Along with a healthy disrespect for the talking snake book, comes the same skepticism for most of the establishment. No pledging allegiance, and unless the world cup is on, no flags flying on lawns. We have done God, King, county, and empire. The rows of white gravestones in France and Belgium are our testament to the BS of my country right or wrong. Pete Townsend spoke to us all when he said: "We won't get fooled again".

We knew this was going to happen. Can you imagine what the next five years will bring if trump wins the next election? He must get the biggest high pulling this off. His presidency is by far the biggest con he has ever pulled off. We as a country may never fully recover.

Will be a disaster if religious schools take funding away from public schools they don't stress academics just evangelical endeavors this is public funding of religion

Government will never be totally separate from religion. Some examples: In both the armed forces and in prisons there are chaplains of various religions, paid with tax dollars. If a veteran gets education money under the GI bill he is perfectly free to attend a seminary with his benefits. Suppose that in the future the government takes over health insurance. Government workers will be working with church owned hospitals and paying them with tax dollars.

There is no requirement that government and religion be separate, only that government not establish an official religion or prevent the free exercise of religion.

Funny how there are so many strict constructionists on issues where a strict interpretation works in your favor, but on issues like gun rights, abortion, gay marriage, etc those strict constructionists suddenly favor liberal interpretations.

Constituionally, those must be clear and unequivocal lines.

Public school supported by our tax money is not the same as private school where you can call all the shots, have religion, uniforms, etc. all to your liking.

You can spin it any way u want but Christians think its there God given right tobe supported by the govt. In their mind because this is a majority Christian country the govt should support them and they can do what they want. For example i had friends who were otherwise rational until it came to their religion. A small town in New Mexico called Belen had a Nativity scene on the grounds of the town hall. When some people complained it was inappropriate, Christians shot back that Belen means Bethlehem in Spanish it was the towns cultural heritage and local govt should underwrite the cost. When i asked if the town was called Mecca should the town pay for a mosque. Ty hey didnt like ghat idea.

I'm for public schools...secular schools. If a parent wants a religious school they should pay for it themselves....not the taxpayers.

I am so over the encroachment of religion.
All of it.
