Simply because I'm currently playing 2 CDs of Eric Coates compositions and now realising that he composed many theme tunes that were used for numerous long running series on BBC Radio I'm presenting to you his "Calling All Workers" piece written to bolster morale in Britain during the grim days of WWII. The music was used as the theme tune to "Music Whilst You Work" broadcast from June 1940 to September 1967. Eric Coates was born in 1886 near Nottingham and died in 1957 having left a priceless inheritance of British Light Music.

I make no excuse for the crappy sound - it is a 80 year old 78 rpm recording played on a very poor quality Garrard turntable using a sewing needle for a stylus.

It must have gone on long after the war, because I can remember that.

Until 1967.

He also wrote the music used in the Desert Island Discs programme. See "BBC Desert Island Discs - the history
[youtu.
" in "Desert Island Discs".

It fronted Music While You Work broadcast from places of work, usually large works canteens. A friend (now dead) wrote hundreds of 14minute continuous sequences for this programme.

As for Eric Coates he lived a charmed life and according to his son Austin his dad was always happy. It comes across in his music.
