The problem here is the vagueness of the question as posed, if I may say so. Is the strength of global atheism increasing? Yes, in some areas more than others, notably in the Western world, if strength means growing numbers of people indentified in survey and census figures. Are atheists individually becoming stronger in their confidence and outspokenness in promoting atheism and criticising religion? Again yes, though the nonreligious movement is broad, as we see on this site, with atheists, agnostics, anti theists, secular religionists and alike. This fracturedness tends the weaken the overall impact and strength of the movement, I think, from an external perspective, since it's seen as divided and bickering. There are signs of growing strength, but atheism is still largely ignored by media, negative stereotypes of atheists still abound, and public figures still often avoid identifying themselves as nonreligious because it isn't a good look for them. When those things start to change it would reflect a strengthening movement. It's a long road.

there was an interesting comment about how the germans set upon the jews. apparently there was a census in germany in the early 30's which among other questions asked religious leanings. all those who answered jewish were eventually rounded up and never seen again. nobody knew at the time that info was going to be used for such horrendous purposes. Makes me wonder about this site. Are we making ourselves targets ?

we are not afraid to die,if we are together.

Growing in numbers. Just look at the growth of this site.

i hope it will increase on a increasing pace.

The problem we have is the ZEALOTS in our midst will not live-and-let-live. The forcing them to take down the WWI Cross memorial is an example of the REALLY serious problems we have as a group. Most closet atheists will not come out for fear due to the bad image the zealots portray.

I believe so. I have no empirical data to cite, but in my personal experience I seem to meet non believers in the gym more than anywhere else. It seems to me that heathens are hitting the weights more than ever.

I think atheism / agnosticism is on the rise in the United States but religion is on the rise in the rest of the world

But in china there is a huge strength of atheist.

It seems so, especially that more of them are feeling more comfortable to be open about it.

Atheist are more tolerate about their views in the comparison of theists.

It's hard to say if it's increasing or just being able to surface more. Atheism has been around since the beginning of history but so many religions made it an offense punishable by death that not many people were that open about it. I find it similar to homosexuality. Homophobes thought that if we allow gayness then it will promote gayness. They thought they were right because suddenly copious amounts of gay people were popping up. They were too stupid to realize that it's not on the rise but rather that people who were always secretly gay were finally coming forward because they feared less for their lives when it became more socially acceptable.

U r right atheism is a crime but people are becoming an open athiest in every society withoit being feared from the perception of theists.

I think people are generally becoming more fact based and less faith based, which does make the atheist position stronger in the sense that more people are supportive or sympathetic.

True as scienctific base becoming stronger, the riligious views are getting weaker.

@FAIZ I think you stated it better than I did.

Not substantially

1

how would you evaluate that?

People are becoming more open about their views, i'm not talking about the whole world.
If we see in the indian scenario, india is a Multiriligionist society and here talking about any religion is a great sin! But today a large strength of youth is against the fascist agenda of rilgious indian govt. They are demanding jobs, free education, free health services, crime free society etc. They do not go temples, mosques and churches. That is my base of determination. But i may be wrong in some context, however chances are becoming favourable on a slow pace towarda atheists.
