Barnie: We live in a racist society from top to bottom.

Rubin: No, Bernie. We live in the freest, most prosperous country in the history of the world. An experiment in which people from all over the world have come here to make a better lives. And they almost always have. The American dream.

Two very different views about the country they both live. What are your insights, American folks? (I don't live in America, so...)

We are the Big Blend. Capitalism has set us against each other, though. ‘Freedom of religion’ has come to mean ‘Competition among religions.’

Religion has become a social identity.. It’s used to justify the inherent or biological bigotry and tribalism that gives humans a feeling of security and belonging. It is very easy to manipulate, especially when it’s delivery system (Religious Freedom) is ‘guaranteed in our Constitution.’

For some to have too much means most will have far less. If that mentality can be justified by your religion ..too often, it is…

I’m not willing to say that our country is the very best—there’s a lot of subjectivity in a judgment like that. There are some good things about all countries. Our country is a pretty darn good one though. It’s good enough.

Our society is not racist from bottom to top IMO. You are always going to have a degree of tribalism in any society. What is important is for all people to be treated fairly and with respect. Admittedly that has not always been the case, however I think we have made a lot of progress in that regard.

Based on media output I can see where a foreigner might form a very poor opinion of the US. The media make a lot of money by promoting fear, hatred and division through stereotyping and demonization.
