FINALLY!

Today is stage 2 of our move to West Richland – a process that we started almost 2 years ago when my wife lived in Albuquerque and I in Everett. We’d meet here, ldr'd, I visited, she visited, fell in love, blah blah blah.

This will be the 4th time I’ve moved in that timeframe and the 3rd for my wonderful wife. After her 1st visit here it was obvious to us we were going to spend the rest of our lives together (and others, too – how long you 2 been married? You’ve only known each other for 6 months? Really?) so began planning accordingly. I’d fly down and spend about 2 weeks there, then about 2 weeks in Everett, rinse repeat. Got things arranged so I could move down to Albuquerque and did so. We were in an apartment so 3 weeks after I got there we rented a house and moved.

There we spent 7 months narrowing down where we really wanted to relocate too – she'd been looking at eastern Washington and I’d just wanted to get out of Everett. We decided the tri-cities area met more of our requirements than anywhere else so the decision was made.

Then we moved back up to my place in Everett. Never really settled in, good portion our stuff was in a storage unit in Kennewick awaiting us finding a house in the area. Hunted up a real estate agent and started going over the passes every 2 weeks looking at houses – for a little over 6 months. Found 1, bought it, had a few mods done to it, and we finally have our place, just waiting for us. 2 weeks ago we cleaned out the Kennewick storage unit and partially moved in for a week. Came back to Everett and started the final phase, only to have the weather get nasty enough to make going across the passes tricky in a moving truck.

Well today we have a window to cross Snoqualmie pass. Trucks loaded, bags are packed, and it’s time.

@fernapple , you asked how we define success. When I drop off the rental truck – empty – tomorrow I will have met that days definition of success.
EDIT: Suc fucking cess!

Wow! Congratulations to both of you, I have no idea which parts of the USA some of these places you mentioned are located...apart from Albuquerque and East Washington,, and I do know they’re a long distance apart.....no idea about Everett or where it is. Anyway good luck with the move and I wish you a long and happy life together, it’s nice to hear of a successful relationship stem from meeting here on Agnostics!

Thanks! Everett is a touch north of Seattle, 1448 miles from my old door in Everett to the door of her apartment in Albuquerque .

Move is done! Strategic placement and storage of items commencing in a bit. Maybe this afternoon. We're tired. 🙂

@1of5 Thanks..I have a better understanding of the vast distances involved now!

Here's a map of the state. [washingtonstatesearch.com]
In comparison Washington State is slightly smaller than Oregon. It was said E. Germany was the size of Oregon and W. Germany the size of Washington. Notice us in the upper left corner.

@Marionville we still have to go to Everett for my folks (looking like my stepdad will be in hospice soon enough) at least once a month, but we've basically got a 2 year moratorium on traveling anywhere - except to go see her daughter.

@JackPedigo Thank you...I must have passed through Everett without knowing it because my husband and I drove down from. Vancouver to Seattle in 1979...would have travelled further but I discovered I was pregnant with my second son and was suffering from bad morning sickness (more like all day sickness), so we flew home from Seattle.

@1of5 I’ve just realised I must have passed through Everett unknowingly in 1979...see reply to Jack.

@Marionville in 1979 driving down I-5 the only indication you were in Everett was the smell, so good thing you didn't notice. 🙂

@Marionville Everett was the place Boeing built what was, then, the largest building in the world. The 747's were built there. Now many of the bigger jets, 777, 787 and so on are there. On my way to Seattle there is always a traffic jam on the freeway through Everett and it is where an unusual weather pattern called the conversion zone takes place. [en.wikipedia.org]

@JackPedigo the convergence zone got us, and this is no shit, a touch over 3 inches of rain in 50 minutes last spring in about a 40 to 50 block area - and .1 inch everywhere else.

@1of5 I seem to hit it often going to Seattle. Funny, but I lived in Heidelberg Germany for 15 years. There are two small mountain ranges (Heilengenberg and Konigstuhl) next to the city with a river in between. The area's weather had been hard to predict because of the convergence zone. The military forecasters always got it wrong but the Germans figured it out and usually got it right.

@JackPedigo convergence zone weather is so hard to predict. We got better forecasts living on Samish than we did in Everett, which I guess is good from a staying alive standpoint. Although Everett forecasts in the winter are usually nothing but how hard it'll rain that day and how far above or below 48 deg it'll be (usually +/- 5).

I still don't trust weather forecasts that are more than 3 days out. Sucked when trying to figure out when to get a truck for the move.

@1of5 Interesting, Samish is a ways from Everett. When I was on a dating site I was conversing with a woman that lived on Samish and worked at the bread research place in Bow. We never did hook up but when traveling to Bellingham I take the Chuckanut drive. Every time I go through Bow/Edison and pass the bread factory I think of this person.

@JackPedigo used to ride our 10 speeds into Bow.

Chuckanut drive is so nice, much better than 5. You used to be able to stop and dig fossiles out of the hillside in a couple places along it. Ever eat at the oyster bar? It used to be really good.

@1of5 Not an oyster fan. With all our rains the last time I tried to go the route it was closed due to avalanches. The road does come pretty close to the cliff-sides and it can be scary even in good weather.

@JackPedigo local seafood and stuff, but terrific oysters. 😉 We used to row down to Blau's oysters (on Samish) and steal a sting of oysters (at night) and shuck and eat them on the beach.

Yeah, it can be, but the views are worth it!

@1of5 Sorry, I really never developed a taste for oysters. Mussels (cooked) are good. I noticed sever Oyster places along the drive. Any Oyster places in the Tri-cities?

I like the winding road, the views, solitude and it gets me off I-5.

@JackPedigo I grew up eating them. My grandfolks had a place on hood canal where you just walked along the beach and picked them up at low tide. Easier than digging steamers. Think the local Anthony's will be about it. Oh well.

@1of5 Often things we like are learned. I grew up in Texass and never got an appreciation for oysters.

Moving sucks!

So fucking tired of it. Hopefully I'll die here.

Congratulations. Enjoy your new home!

Well if you insist.

Thanks!

Congrats! Sounds complicated but obviously was worth it.

It was on all counts.

We finally have a home.

aww this is like a romance movie/novel but in real life. How sweet! 🙂 Now I wanna know, who's the lucky user?? 😉

We're both under new user names (took a break for life and shit) but it used to be SarahJustMe. All she does is lurk here so she can read all the posts/comments instead of being blocked.

1

That's wonderful! Enjoy your lives together! 😊

Thanks. We have been so far.

Good luck

Hope your travels over the pass go well - and you have a pretty sunny day to enjoy the snow on the side of the road instead of on the road.

Lived several years in Everett. Tri-cities area is nice too! Glad you found each other and are creating a life together in a place you both chose.

Thanks. Everything went as planned.

Wow, what a journey (so to speak). Congratulations!

Thanks!
