I'm watching an intetesting series on Netflix. Its a story set near present day Aleppo, Syria in the time of the Templers and the Crusades. In the time of ibn Arabi.

Its in Turkish with English subtitles (easy to follow) -"The Resurrection". Its a romance story in the vain of Beau Geste (turkish-style. Lol). Its also a political story with lots of intrique and subtefuge. The historical research is incredible ( 3 doctorates in turkish history listed in the credits). The cultural research equally as well done. If you like textiles and leather armor you"ll love it.

Now, my main point. I have no truck with religion in any capacity being a committed atheist. In fact, it has reference to "God" every few lines, but it doesn't get in the way of the plot and the action. It fits the story line.

The most interesting thing is that the descriptions that the Turkmans give of Christians parallels what our less tolerant persons in our country say about Moslems are nearly identical. As predictable the Templers are the villians and the tribal Turkmen are the romantic heros. It interesting to see the traditial roles reversed and seen from another perspective.
