If the stock market crashes with accompanying economic downturn,do you think it will benefit Dems or Reps? i say this as socialist policy, a social safety net, will start to look a lot more attractive for many Americans I feel. Or will the establishment blame others like Russia/ Iran?
Anyway, I feel it may be the end of the $USD dominance........will anyone miss Wall St?

My prediction is that the downturn will be shortlived for 60% of the losses; it will make back 15% of 25% lost, and gradually add back the other 10%. Most of this depends on the inroads the pandemic makes in the US, and not much for other countries, even China. China's losses will hurt, but their population is less critical to their commercial performance, and they don't travel much anyway. Losses in the US will also be painful, but only a small percent (less than 10%) that die will come from within the working class. The perception that Trump mishandled the crisis still won't matter to his base; nothing matters to them. His support between 40% and 49% may be a different matter. A 1-2% loss might have a perceptible effect in the election. Look to see how much help the US offers to all the other countries and how many other scandals are uncovered. (i.e. sweetheart deals for test kit makers that didn't actually work). The US dollar is quite secure; nothing to really replace it...

I agree with most of your predictions. Whether this crisis and Trump's mishandling of it is enough, along with the economic impact, to lose him the election is still very hard to say. It depends a lot on how long a memory the independent voters have.

There are 8 months to November 2020. Coronavirus will not affect Trump's re-election chances. In the meantime, enjoy zero percent mortgage rates. Coming soon. Trump will announce a series of stimulus measures for job creators.... aka millionaires and billionaires in Bernie's terms.

@powder

8 months is a plenty of time and Trump has many arrows in his quiver.... A trade deal with China, another with the UK, quantitative easing, air attacks on Iran, patriotism wave by his campaign, talk more religion, more abortion, illegal immigration to solidly eally his base. We underestimated Trump in 2016 and paid a terrible price.

What we cannot forget the fact of how easy Bernie Sanders has made for Trump to beat upon Democrats by repeating why America cannot vote for socialism.

It will benefit anyone who's not invested in the stock market I think.
