This is going to be interesting to see how the virus plays out. My questions/thoughts: we have been in this for a couple of weeks and the recovery numbers don’t seem to be going up. Lack of testing of lack of information? Number of new cases continue exponential- more infections or more testing? Are the wealthy more likely to get this as they travel more, have more outside contacts? Will we see more social programs to help because the more wealthy being effected more?

Lack of both. Look at China they seem to be doing okay

Found out today how my buddy and his wife do it. She buys everything and wears a respirator and washable gloves. She then hauls everything into their basement where it sets for a day. The next day she thinks it is OK to use the products. I'm glad this is them and not me. I still remember when some government asshole said you could avoid radioactive fallout by using plastic sheeting and duct tape to make a safe place in almost any room. Immediately stores sold out of plastic sheeting and duct tape. I think somebody got rich.

People need respirators for 21 days instead of 3 days
Recovery is slow

I'm in Indiana, both local hospitals state I have the symptoms and am probably positive, but no tests are available. I think that is the problem. Trump wanted Kushner's company to make the test kits for the U.S. We have a crap leader, many people will die.

1

My partners sister, a nurse in Connecticut, had the test and had to wait SIX days for the result, which was positive. Prince Charles had the test and got the result the next day. Are we more efficient here or is it one rule for the elite and another for everyone else ?

BOTH, for sure.

Funny how pence and his wife had results in hours, also the athletes knew the same day!

Like everything in this country their are two tiers of healthcare and wealth!!!

One for the wealthy and the rest of what is left for us!!!

3

I'm betting they don't have anywhere near enough test materials and the lab people to run them to be testing seemingly recovered people. Low priority. Other countries who jumped on this faster and used the available tests that WHO provided (unlike the US where we just HAD to invent our own, twice) may bee weeks ahead of us on all that. The US has 68,000 cases and over 1000 deaths, only 41 have been determined to be "Recovered". But 10's of thousands are still awaiting tests. Not yet the time to be retesting seemingly recovered people.

Yes!!!

Our Murder in Chief decided we do not need healthcare unless we pay out the nose for over priced healthcare!!!

Our Death President and his obstructionist republican fascist are Dismantling our healthcare wholesale!!!

They are going to make sure the elderly, the infirm, the disable, women, and the poor do not have accessible affordable healthcare!!!

They rather watch us die and paid our way into bankruptcy, then offer affordable healthcare like so many other countries have!!!

Interesting is an understatement. It's going to be an utter nightmare.

Still too too many unknown factors!!!

Now Doctors are concerned that many after recovering may not have developed any immunity!!!

They still do not know in real time how long the Coronavirus stays active in social situations!!!

They are now referring to a possible second wave of infection!!!

Yes, too too many unconfirmed variables at this time to know how long or how many will actually survive!!!

It will not be over in weeks or months!

The 1917-1918 Pandemic took 14 months to consume the planet with only 1.5 billion individuals living then.

It has now taken less than four months to circle the planet with 6.8 billion individuals living now!!!

Be safe, keep your distance, we are all in this together!!!

It will be a long long time before any form of normality returns if ever!!!

Did you know that one exclamation mark carries the same meaning as two, three, even 100?

It's true. Adding just one exclamation mark still makes it an "exclamation"!

@AtheistInNC who cares !!!!!!!!!!

@FrostyJim Yeah, kind of a pointless exclamation.😉

@AtheistInNC
If you do not like it tough shit!!!

I do not tell you how to wipe!!!

, @oldFloyd

It is all pointless is it not!!!

Too many asshole in the world!!!

@AtheistInNC It may carry the same meaning, but added marks better show the depth of emotion a person is feeling at the time.

@Joanne
Yes it is funny how they criticize, yet never comprehend what is written!!!

At least a few individuals on here understands and comprehends the style, art, and emotion of it all!!!

Thanks for your understanding and compassion within the “Love and Compassion in the Times of Coronavirus”

If you look at my history, you will see that my long distance girlfriend is a confirmed case. I was very concerned for her because she is a breast cancer survivor and has a compromised immune system from having done radiation treatment. I spoke with her today. She is on the upside now and beginning to recover. (There are still some issues present) She is still quarantined and expects to be for several more weeks.

Wishing the best for her. I'm immunocompromised and old AF and it's terrifying.

Apparently the wealthy and more connected to politicians get tested first , then the folks in ICU , then doctors , then maybe nurses working in ICU .

The recovery numbers are slowly going up. Some of that is due to only using the tests for potential COVID-19 cases. I suspect it takes longer to get well; I don’t think I’ve seen a number of days for how long it lasts or usually lasts.
In part, the increased number of cases is due to more testing.
Who ever is traveling is at increased risk, many people travel for work. The wealthy have more resources to get tested and get treatment, at least in the US.

I'm not sure but from what I see nobody knows what in the hell they are talking about. Panic and fear are everywhere. Workmates told me today that I might be killing babies or older people (I am an old people) and that I should take this more seriously. Just this afternoon a man I've known for a very long time simply could not understand why I would not go get tested if the text kits were available. The answers is "because I am not sick." It went over this guys head totally.

Totally agree. We don't routinely go and get a flu test every season, but might if we were sick.

Might be useful to have an antibody test when they become available so you would know whether or not you had previous exposure and, assuming some immunity, whether or not it would be safe to be around others for their safety and yours.

Do you realize that COVID-19 is spread buy people that have NO symptoms? I sure don’t want to be the person with it, but unaware because if you take it home or to a loved one’s home they may get sick. That could be devastating for both you and them. Keep calm and carry on.

Not everyone needs to be tested, but until we get a handle on the spread we all should be social distancing and self isolating doing our part not to unknowingly catch or spread the virus.

At least one thing we are learning is how to be courteous to others in not getting too close if there is any chance we could be carrying virus, whether the flu, common cold, or anything. If there is one silver lining in all this, we are learning more healthy habits!

@itsmedammit Yes, I sure am curious if I might be immune, since it's possible I already had it an recovered. Hoping to ask my doctor, if my regular visit next month isn't canceled, if there is an anti-body test. I'd feel like a superwoman if I'm immune to this virus and work with clients and can snuggle with my loved ones with no reservations! 🙂

@CS60 Spread by people who have no symptoms. Could it also be possible that it is spread by those with symptoms. If both of these are possible I would be afraid to breathe, hold my breath a lot, carry a rabbit's foot, and maybe pray. From what I see that fits everyone else pretty well.

The Internet keeps telling me how to clean my house because of this virus. They will scare the shit out of you but I have no traffic here. I'm the only one who comes and goes and lives here. Just this morning on world news I saw people with tanks of spray on their backs using a giant wand sprayer to spray down railings in South Africa as big around as your arm. It brought to mind the fumigation of crops in the past. Mist was everywhere. What was in the tanks? If nobody knows much about this virus why did they think this might work and what was it to do? I don't think anyone knows.

Ummmmmmm, you cannot Get a test unless a doctor orders it and they will not if you have no symptoms because there are way too few to be had.

@DenoPenno Unfortunately, COVID-19 can be spread by both those that have symptoms and those that don’t. If carrying a rabbit’s foot makes you feel better by all means do so. But take simple precautions, such as washing your hands (20 seconds) and trying not to touch your face. Doctors and scientists are learning quickly about COVID-19. Make sure you use legitimate websites - CDC, Johns Hopkins, StateHealth Depts. Some websites will try to scare you to get you to buy stuff - DON’T fall for it. Knowledge is power and hopefully you’ll feel less afraid. Use common sense with cleaning and staying safe.

@CS60 I only use legitimate websites and I also jest when I mention a rabbit's foot or prayers. What I am trying to get across is how afraid everyone is. What I am afraid of is that many of us have went nuts!

@DenoPenno Oh yeah, some folks are going overboard. Some maybe legit based on their circumstances - either having an illness or caring for someone who does. I think it also depends on where you live. I’d be freaked-out if I was in or near New York City

Only time will tell.

3

Lack of accurate information which is kind of the same thing. Not everyone is being tested so just figure the real infected rate is much higher. Also kind of depends where you live. Some countries have a real health care system. Some are a haphazard mess. I think the worst is just about over for many. We've been into this a few weeks now. Figure another couple weeks and it should begin to subside. The virus will have run its course. And then the blame game and profiteering will begin in earnest.

Stay safe.

1

Everyone needs to be tested. Then we could know who has the virus and insure that they are quarantined. That would spread out the curve. Still, until a vaccine is de4velopded the odds are that, over time, 70 to 80 percent of us are going to catch it.

In a perfect world everyone should be tested. But there aren't enough tests to go around. Also who would pay for all those tests? Remember that to be tested consumes resources that are needed for those who are severely I'll. Most people who get covid 19 and it's just a case of the flu which they recover from in a couple weeks. We are so poorly equipped for this that we can't find toilet paper in the stores much less a test for covid 19.
The request to self isolate is because we can't test everyone! If we could, it would be easier to just separate those who have been tested from those who have not. And only treat the infected. But...not possible
So...
Stay separate for a few weeks until the virus runs its course is the next best option.

Stay safe.

Germany has a high level of testing; they also have a low (less than 1%) of cases resulting in death. Look at Italy, I think the death rate is closer to 10%.

@Shaggy2018 We CAN and should test everyone. All that it requires is the will to do it! It is damned well time that we decided to do what is right and best for us and our country.

@Jk1960 I don't give a damned who has the integrity to admit blame. Just do the right things NOW!! We the people can decide who is to blame later, and exercise our judgment to get rid of the moral midgets.

2

Lack of testing, trump turned down offers from China and the WHO for thousands of kits because he wanted it done from his son in laws company

Lack of testing is giving us the wrong message.

I know some areas are getting a lot of tests, so they are getting more positives, but at my hospital we still have to argue and fight to get our patients tested, and we are still told no. We are also seeing major delays in results. One of our doctors went on quarantine Tuesday of last week and still doesn't have his result. Circumstances differ wildly from one area to the next.

Sounds chaotic. How much of this is due to a panic mentality? I have read that our flu season is also rough this year. How much is due to that?

@itsmedammit panic accounts for little because people have to meet specific criteria to get tested, so we aren't wasting tests on every patient who wants one. Flu is also superfluous because we have a fast, simple test for it and those patients can get tami flu. Flu season is usually closing down this time of year in Atlanta. But there aren't nearly enough tests, and even sick providers either can't get a test or can't get results.

@Emerald Thanks for the info. I was thinking more in terms of overall chaos. In the absence of tests, are severely ill patients quarantined out of caution?

@itsmedammit they send them home without testing and tell them to quarantine at home if their symptoms are mild. Severe cases are admitted and assumed to be covid-19 based on labs and might get tested. But I'm seeing a lot of pneumonia, which is odd when daytime temps are in the 70s. I assume a chunk of them are because they had covid and it led to pneumo.

@Emerald Thanks again for the interesting info. Not a good sign that you are seeing a lot of pneumonia.

One other question, if I might. When influenza patients are admitted with severe illness, are they routinely quarantined in the hospital?

@itsmedammit no they aren't. But covid-19 seems to be an either-or virus. People either have influenza or covid, but not both at once. Covid is about 3 times as contagious as flu, so we try to keep these folks in positive pressure rooms. Both viruses can cause pneumonia.

@Emerald Thanks for the insights into procedure.

Given that this virus thing has only been around for a few months, it's not surprising to me that we have more questions than answers.
It's going to be a long slog.
Hell, medical science is still working on understanding and treating cancer, the common cold, mutating annual influenza strains, etc.
I honestly don't understand what makes any reasonable person think they should know more at this point than they do.
These things take time.
It's unrealistic to expect otherwise.

It's a pandemic.
It's not going away anytime soon.

I have good news for you, according to the very stable genius in charge it'll all be fine by Easter Sunday. In two weeks it'll all gonna be good again. Thank God for Trump's leadership.

Two things that don't exist: God and Trump's leadership.

@Sgt_Spanky Yeah. I wouldn't take anything he says as anything but bullshit.
I wish he would contract this shit and die, and his little Pence, too.

LOL... you mean quarantine isn't helping? Confined to home, lack of social interaction, increased sanitation chemicals, lack of outdoor activity/ sunshine... sounds like additional mental and physical stress taxing on the immune system. If you are a city, inside person, it probably won't matter.
