Anyone ever had a virtual date? When I met my fiance here on agnostic.com we lived 500 miles apart so we did a video chat and I went to the museum in Florida and she went to one in Arkansas then went out to eat after, and that was our first date. That was 2 years ago. Now we're making wedding plans and that may turn into a virtual wedding too, since this virus has everything shuttered.

I've been texting with a guy I met here on Agnostic.com for more than a year now. We don't live to far from each other but every time I mention a real date he does something to that not happen (he ghosts on me and come back weeks later with some excuses, or he says he is busy that day, or he have to go out of town that weekend). Tbh I don't know I still talking to him 😟

I've net people online that later became friends. Heck, I met my ex-wife in a IRC chatroom. It was interesting getting to know her for a month or so before actually seeing her. It forced us to get to know each other without relying on appearance.

Haha
I used to chat all the time on IRC. I still have great friends from that time.

Congratulations!!!! I met my fiancee here too! We video chat every night since we live 2400 miles away from each other! At first it was just texts and phone calls. Until we met in person then we video chat.

Again congratulations!!!!

Not my thing but if it works for you that's fine. My newest prospective dating scammer wants to do texting and hangouts. I tell her that real people can talk on the phone and her reply was that "we had to get to know each other first." I think that is where I stopped, but good luck to you.

Congratulations! I could use some friends in AR! I work in LIttle Rock.

No, but it sounds really cool. It's obvious you're both great communicators. Congratulations on your engagement.

As long as sex isn’t virtual Especially on your honeymoon I guess it’s a start.

I actually had a video chat with my girlfriend before we first went out. I almost wish I had not. Some of my impressions were very wrong. We did go out and have been together for six months. She is still at odds with the fact that I don't like to text or talk on the phone. I just do better in person even though I am very intorverted.

That's great but I'd draw the line at a virtual honeymoon.

Had them all the time when we were in an LDR, and they were integral to maintaining our relationship when we were 1500 miles apart.

We meet here and have been married for a year and a half now. Best of luck.

I have never dated online or through any app. I have only dated people I have met face to face.

I refuse to get twitterpated over a man before meeting.

The best and quickest way to ruin fun and good times is to load them up with expectations in advance.

NOTHING IS REAL UNTIL YOU MEET.

Twitterpatted .. that is a unique turn of phrase. I kind of like .it.. is it anything like Infatuated.. but on Twitter?

@AmmaRE007 @LiterateHiker Wow, I love that word! Nice. 🙂

It's about a virtual date, not a virtual relationship.

@AmmaRE007, @Lauren

Twitterpated means "excited or overcome by romantic feelings." (dictionary.com)

Origin and meaning:

"Twitterpated is an adjective formed from twitter in the "tremulous excitement" noun sense (1670s) + pate (noun) "head" (compare flutterpated, 1894)."

[etymonline.com]

@LiterateHiker I'm absolutely focused on using this word in my real life! I now love it even more, now that I know it has nothing to do with Twitter.

@Lauren

Twitterpated reminds me of Tweety Bird in Looney Tunes cartoons.

"I taut I saw a puddy cat! I did, I did, a puddy cat!"

I agree, nothing is real until you meet. On any form of text you get to edit what you've written to present a better image. Spoken language is also quite different to written language, so you can't help but give a false impression. You also lose the vast amount of non-verbal communication.

@LiterateHiker That's a great way to remember the word, too! After I check out more of those videos. 😉

Well said. Whether dating or otherwise, expectations are frequently the source of problems. I like your parsing of the word twitterpated. It can happen to anybody. And it is spring after all.

It sounds like an interesting way to meet people, but I do hnto think it would work well for everyone.

What a great idea!And Best Wishes to you both!

Good luck with your situation!!!
