You haven't met the ones like Patxi or Fernando, when off duty.
They are para-military and therefore subject to strict discipline when on duty.
When they are on holiday, away from where they have to work, they can be hillarious.
@Petter well, I would hope so! I never felt safer before or since, in fact that was when I realized how dangerous of a place I actually lived, when actual law & order was enforced. (Late 70 's, Rota area)
@AnneWimsey I have no first hand knowledge of Spain in the seventies. At the time I was living in Idi Amin's Uganda.

I have debated a 70klm round trip to buy from my organic vegetable farmer as the local markets are now closed. The nearby turkey farmer would also be good but he also supplies a local butcher who increases prices threefold!

Today I walked down to my local grocer, who stocks loads of fresh veg grown in the neighbourhood and fertilised mainly by pig droppings. It's an invigorating, 600 yard, return trip.
@Petter Sadly all our supermarket or greengrocer food is shipped to Melbourne even if grown locally before being transported back. One Prime Minister called it the clever country.

Nice to know North Americans are not the only idiots.
