Just as there are levels and stages of grief and anger, there are stages of responses to cleaning out your parent's belongings after they pass.

  1. That brings back memories
  2. I want that
  3. People have too much stuff
  4. Who wants this shit?
Especially when the world is closed and no one will buy anything and no charities will take anything. Just me venting.

So sorry for your loss, I know this isolation makes it extra hard but hope you have wonderful memories of your family member when they were alive.

I also hope you have lots of boxes that you can sort things into and mark for appropriate distribution after this mess is over. I actually remember that when I experienced the great losses of my life, taking care of "the stuff" kept my mind busy in a way that was healthy for me.

Thanks.

Too much sentimentality will drag you down, and too much stuff.

I’ve watched those stages play out in a relative, and your post makes me smile
