Could this pandemic have been prevented if we did not rely on economists to run our society? A permanent government-funded facility needs to be set up to research viruses instead of relying on market solutions. I can think of no more glaring evidence of a market failure and the failure of economic thinking today than this pandemic. The interview shows this and responds to other questions including conspiracies vs man-made vs god created.

RT, of course, delights in airing items that show America in a less than favourable light, just as the USA does for Russia and China. However, that does not mean everything is a lie, merely that stations air uncomfortable truths, as in this interview.
My personal favourite for balanced reporting is definitely AlJazeera.

. . . really ? Your source for economic "expertise" is Putins' mouthpiece ?
literally unbelievable 😮

@ToolGuy The point is that RT is lacking in credibility.

@ToolGuy Your indignation is based on the premise that I intended to attack you. I have (or at least should) questioned lots (all ? ) posts using RT as source(s), especially in the Politics group.

Considering Russia has demonstrated intent to attack US, I think it fair to question most-anything RT might publish.

@FearlessFly

America has demonstrated not just intent to attack but has actually done plenty of attacking all over the world. So do you consider American sources invalid as well?

@RoboGraham I think it fair to question sources. I think competition in "the marketplace of ideas" is useful and necessary. I haven't found good reason(s) to assign any credibility to RT. Others have tried.

@FearlessFly

I like RT because it provides newd without American bias. All news sources have their flaws. It's best to balance it out with a wide variety. I'm sure RT is far from perfect but at least it's a difference perspective.

@RoboGraham . . . ok, but there is no 'freedom of the press' in Russia. That alone is (for me) more-than plenty of reason to be highly skeptical of anything Putin puts there. I don't think that is an Illusion, ymmv

@ToolGuy The American mainstream media is full of bias because it it corporate-owned and thus has an agenda to support only the interests of American corporations, the rich, the pursuit of American empire, and the two party system of pols that are owned by the rich and corporations. As a result of this, our media has as much censorship as that of any dictatorship or communist government.

@FearlessFly

That is a valid concern. But RT America is produced here where there is freedom of press.

@TomMcGiverin The Internet makes it easy/easier for you/anyone to compete for newsworthiness/credibility.

I invite you/others to try that in Russia. YMMV

I have advocated for NewsGuard -- [newsguardtech.com]

A good first step, but now is for subscribers. More competition is wanted/needed.

@RoboGraham The first section of the Wikipedia page (no expectation of being eminently persuasive). Even Putin gets to spew-forth here.

RT America is a U.S.-based pay television and internet-based news channel which is part of the RT network, a global multilingual television news network based in Moscow, Russia, and funded by the Russian government.

The channel is registered as a "foreign agent" with the United States Department of Justice under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). A 2017 report by the United States Intelligence Community characterized RT as "The Kremlin's principal international propaganda outlet" and said that RT America had been set up as an autonomous nonprofit organization to avoid FARA's registration requirement. The impact of RT America on the US public has been questioned.

Even a stopped clock is right twice A-day.

@RoboGraham What does RT have to say about Biden?

@Lorajay Perhaps you will enlighten us WHICH (nano)second of each day RT "gets it right".

Or, in general, what reliable method is there to weed-out 'fake news'.

@Lorajay

They cover the aspects related to Joe that the American corporate media mostly ignores.

They mention his sexual assault allegations, his hawkish foreign policy record, his eagerness to cut social security and medicaid, his involvement in the creation of the crime bill which gave us mass incarceration, his cozy relationship with credit card companies and other large corporations, his declining mental state...

It is refreshing to consume news which is free from the constraints places on the major networks.

Ummm, the CDC in Atlanta? Once world-renowned, until drump gutted it.

@ToolGuy They shut down Plum Island awhile back...now you can go on tours.
