Saw my naturopathic doc today for the first time since my dad died Told her of a conversation at the funeral about a family thing. The men all have horrible looking legs. Discolored, sometimes oozing, hair loss. Someone at the funeral mentioned recalling long ago visiting my grandfather in the hospital and a doc saw his legs from the doorway and came in briefly and said it was XXX but nobody could remember what the words were that the doc called it.

They did remember that the doc said it runs in families Genetics are the only way you get it, it's not something you get from being around it. I've had weird lymph node swellings now for over a year and my legs have started some minimal discoloration. I've not had the worst of it, thank goodness, but I make my own lotion. My Doc loves old time diagnoses like these. It's like a light bulb went on..she now had a name--Venous Stasis Dermatitis aka Venous Eczema. It apparently ties a few of my issues together, and my brother the pharmacist, and his son the doctor, can look up further information for he and I.

Regular docs only care if they can give you a pill. I love my naturopathic doc, there's more than pills that actually help! Think it's time to make some violet syrup and dig up some dandelions this weekend if the weather cooperates.

Look up vascular insufficiency. If youre basically healthy and happy, a naturopath might be right for you. The tricky part is figuring out if youre not, and if the naturopath can tell the difference. But a huge amount of health has to do with being active and eating right, so youre off to a great start.

Walk a few miles every day unless it's pooring rain, don't eat junk, and I do tend to prefer more natural remedies. Dandelion root and peppermint tea helps the sluggish digestion I have, why take Prilosec, that sort of thing. Like I said, she holds multiple licenses and it's the best care I've ever had. Missouri won't license naturopaths so she wouldn't be around if that was all she held. Like I said, this runs in the family and mine is the least severe....because I support the whole system.

I deeply distrust people that suggest scary things to get your loyalty!

she never has

@Larimar really? You whole post is full of "being frightened" & you can't see it?

There's no fright at all. There's finding what works for each individual. I suggest you're being judgmental and not seeing it. I like to have a name for what it is so that I can find other research and see what may be out there. Maybe there's new studies. There are things that work that aren't pills. My lotion has probably helped keep the skin supple and from enduring some of the problems associated with this. I'll be sending some to my brother. My lotion is homemade, I've spent a lot of time creating what works for me and researching oil properties. That's NOT fear. It's based on research and attempting to alleviate what the family dealls with. My doc supports that. She supports that it's not all known yet and doesn't act like she knows everything because nobody does. Again, that's the farthest thing from fear that a doc can be. So, maybe, you need to take your attitude and go find someone who thinks you have an opinion worth listening to

@Larimar what a charming, open-minded person you are, aaannnd delightful to be around......
