"Going Clear Scientology And The Prison Of Belief." One of the weirdest, scariest, and creepiest documentary of any cult religion I have ever seen in my entire life. "The Bridge To Total Freedom?"

I always knew Scientology was weird and obviously just a bunch of nonsense, but I had no idea what it was really about. It was founded and created by L. Ron Hubbard. He created this practice called Dianetics... "from Greek dia, meaning "through", and nous, meaning "mind" ) is a set of ideas and practices regarding the metaphysical relationship between the mind and body created by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard. Dianetics is practiced by followers of Scientology and the Nation of Islam (as of 2010)."

The chart/photo I posted are all the levels one can reach that they are told will drastically change one's life for the better. You have to pay money to reach each level through training courses. There's this concept called "being clear," which means you have gotten rid of all your fears and traumas in the past using this weird method called auditing. Too hard to explain, as I would have to write so much.

Once you reach OT VIII (Operating Thetan Level 8 ), you are told you now have special magical powers like mind reading, extraterrestrial knowledge and powers, etc.

Member of the cult are told that once they become a member and reach the levels, you will live for eternity and infinite number of lives after you die. Hubbard and the new leader David Miscavige are physically abusive and emotionally abusive to the members of the cult. Hubbard would threaten his wife many times. He also used his Scientology creation to help with his own psychiatric issues. Sounds like a really sane and trustworthy person.

Tom Cruise apparently has reached level 8 and is the biggest celebrity spokesperson for Scientology. This is so creepy to me, I have never heard of anything so bizarre and insane in my life! Have you seen this documentary before or knew what Scientology was about? Any extra thoughts and knowledge about this cult is welcome and much appreciated.

Not worried about it because it seems membership would be self-limiting because most people aren't rich enough to stick with it for long.

What you are leaving out is that Scientology wants your money—all that you have now and all that you ever hope to earn. So far as I know there have been no scientific studies to test the validity of their claims.

Arguing with my priest/landlord over those two issues, he declared me to be a “Suppressive Person”. It is a title that I have borne with great pride since 1968.

@VeronikaAnnJ

Good point. At the time of my encounter I was working as a construction laborer. I could have come up with $400 for the initial round of treatments, ($4000 in today’s dollars) but I argued to my landlord that my fellow workers had families and would not be able to afford such a fee, and that if the method was genuine it should be offered free in schools.

His response was that Scientology has no interest in low level people with no money. That’s when I sort of “lost it” and got myself kicked out of the house.

I have heard several times that L. R. Hubbard himself admitted that his religion was a fake, but that does not seem to have stopped the faithful.

I took one of their courses in 1979. After they explained my "Thetan" to me, I bailed. Then, out of the blue, after 40 years and moving to the middle of the country, they started sending me their magazines and course catalogs. Weird.

@VeronikaAnnJ , actually their center in San Jose was called "Dianetics" like the book. I thought it was about some kind of new age mental relaxation process similar to TM. I had no idea that I was harboring a refugee Thetan from the planet Helatrobis (or something like that). I did an "exercise" where I sat across from a person and stared into their eyes for 2 hours, no talking. Afterwards she asked if I felt her "Thetan". That was the end of that and then I was fired from one of their companies I was working for. I think it was called "Miracle Method".

Religion is a scam and L Ron Hubbard was well aware of this when he made up this "faith". In this case he didn't believe what he espoused. Cult

@VeronikaAnnJ Some religions were founded in good "faith", at least supposedly. Scientology was designed as a scam by a man who knew he was totally making this stuff up for his personal gain. He was aware of what a scam religion was so he made up his own so he could take part in a scam. Amazing really.
