So I've been hearing that gun owner have a 'God given' right to have their guns. Where is this coming from? I'm not a theologian, but I have never heard this before. I realize many right wing Christians believe in Manifest Destiny, that this country was given by God to Christians (all they had to do was slaughter all the people who were already here).
Do they think that God wrote the constitution too?

as far as I know ,in the bible story god never had a gun so where does this god given right come from ?

It drifts in from the Preamble of the Declaration of Independence... Rights = from "Creator".
"Preamble to the U.S. Declaration of Independence, 1776. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness." It is only a little stretch to say that the rights enumerated in the constitution come from a "Creator". But then Vox Populi, Vox Dei, "the voice of the people is the voice of God."

@Ktcyan This is a Roman Legal Maxim, One has to wonder at the piety of these old pagans.
