As usual the headline is a lot more promising than the article.

Even if we have to wait until he is out of office, Trump could have the distinction (which he loves to say he is the best and only) of being the only US president to ever be put in jail after his term. And one thing for sure, I would hope Biden would not pardon this criminal, even if it took years to actually convict him of the stuff he has gotten away with for his entire life..

"Trump's lawyers have argued that the president has absolute immunity while in office from grand jury investigations of criminal conduct. During oral arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, they contended Trump could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and escape prosecution until he leaves office."

Trump's lawyers have been making this argument for awhile now but is it actually written into the Constitution that the president can engage in any sort of criminal conduct while in office and no matter what it may be, including murder, he's protected from prosecution for anything?

No, it isn't. It's an internal policy that been dredged up to protect THIS criminal president.

His lawyers are suggesting the president can do anything criminal and he's protected from prosecution by the power of his office. So theoretically, even if the president hangs the First Lady from a chandelier in the West Wing the day after he's sworn in, takes pictures of her body, shares them in a tweet where he proclaims, "I FINALLY OFFED THE BITCH!" and he's untouchable for the next 4-8 years.

This is ridiculous and yet, here we are.

Nancy Pelosi loves to claim that no one, not even the president, is above the law but Trump actually IS above the law if no one ever holds him accountable. Trump IS above the law because the Rs and the SCOTUS have allowed him to be.

FWIW, (bipartisan) Impeachment is the Constitutional remedy. 😛

@FearlessFly Not possible with the rampant R corruption in the Senate. We saw it happen. They'll protect him regardless what he's guilty of. Again, above the law.

@Sgt_Spanky I had hopes that 4 Rs would defect, but the Constitution (the law) was followed. 😮

Ummmm, so if this is true, why did Nixon need a Pardon?!

@AnneWimsey Because Repubs back in the 70s still took their oaths of office seriously.

Punt. Notice the two dissenters were Thomas and Alito. What a pair of assholes!

The article doesn't explain why SCOTUS ruled against releasing them to Congress.

@OldMetalHead . . . right, I missed that 🙂
