This almost restores one’s faith in the Corporate world.

Kainos. - a technology company based in Belfast is returning all of the furlough money it received from the U.K. Government during the COVID 19 pandemic, because they say they were able to continue trading strongly and making a profit during this period. In all they furloughed 131 of their 1,700 employees and will be paying £400,000 back to the U.K. Treasury.

I believe there are other British companies who have also decided to pay back money received from the Government’s Furlough scheme, including Games Workshop. The scheme involves the payment of 80% of the employee’s salary for staff who are kept on by their employer, by covering wages of up to £2;500 per month. Kainos have now withdrawn completely from the scheme.

A small feel good story amongst the pile of doom and gloom, but I thought it warranted a mention!

Not all corporations are bad and many are non-profit (and hopefully non-prophet) and give back to society.

Yes...it’s just that we are rarely able to actually witness their generosity in such a tangible way.

@Marionville Some actually promote this on their products (like Newman's own). However, this seems a bit like bragging.

@JackPedigo Self promotion...there’s an old saying “self praise is no recommendation”!

@Marionville But in the business world it is sometimes necessary.

@JackPedigo Yes, of course.

Yes...but it’s not typical over here either, sadly.

Good to hear, and nice to know there are corporations that have a conscience and don’t rip off tax payers. Would be nice to see this same behavior in U.S. companies, but won’t hold my breath waiting....

Good to see that naked capitalism, US style, is not yet all-pervasive in UK.

No...but they are a small ethical company with a good ethos and responsibility towards employees and the environment. Not what you’d call typical by any means.
