I received this in our local telegram chat and I'm taken aback by what this article says about Atheists being emotionally suppressive people.

[psypost.org]

I believe I was an emotionally strong kid to rise out of a suppressive religion. I was young enough, strong enough to realise it for the fake it was.

I would like to hear your comments regarding this article.

Humm... I'm not so sure about that one. Maybe we aren't as expressive because we aren't trying to convince others around us that we feel a certain way? In my experience, atheists have been the most emotionally intelligent people I've ever met. Most have been deep thinkers and can manage their feelings as they come. So largely, it could also be personality based... I know I can be emotionally reserved, but that's more related to my nature as an introvert than my beliefs, and I think that people with certain personality characteristics would be more apt to rethink religion.

However, in the reverse I'll say that emotional EXPRESSION aside, I do believe that religion has a hand in forcing people to repress parts of themselves and their emotion to make them fit into their religious boxes. That feelings can sometimes be a weakness and the person should pray about it or trust God more. Cast aside your own thoughts, adopt the thoughts that we have approved you to have... that kind of thing.

I'll say, it's possibly correlation but not causation.

I read the insulting bullshit ....OBVIOUSLY the so called researchers are pushing an agenda to brand Atheists as "untrustworthy" and "unpredictable".....good lawyers impeach witness testimony with the same leading questions as the Burris "study" SNEER QUOTE and writer Nolan gleefully inciting Atheists pandering to believers and bullshit Agnosticism
