That's a very insightful article. Really gets to the heart of the matter. Very well put.

There is a lot of truth here, but as a Brit Iā€™m not complacent that we are much better. Yes we have our NHS and our BBC..much admired institutions around the world, and ones we should be rightly proud of. What are the Tories doing to both of them? The first will be in danger of being used as a bargaining chip in a new trade deal with the USA (already admitted by the USA but denied by Boris Johnson) and the second, the BBC, they are already dismantling bit by bit. We have already voted for Brexit, when joining the EU was something we fought so hard to join in the first place. It brought us closer to our European neighbours and strengthened the bonds of unity between workers and their rights in all 28 countries of the EU. I am truly afraid that we in the U.K., are following the path of the USA and that if we continue on the trajectory we are currently on, we will end up a similar basket case, where the rich get ever richer and the poor can be left to fight over the meagre pickings left over in an economy where might is considered more important than right.

@Allamanda I think weā€™ve shot ourselves in the foot by leaving the EU...the future trade deals done around the world will be at a cost for us in trade-offs and workers rights.

This has been true my whole life. Anybody who brings it up is branded as a Marxist.

@Allamanda It can. Not in my lifetime but younger people on this site will live to see it. If Biden can squeeze in, we'll see the Public Option for ACA. I believe most Americans will opt in.

WOW! I get to the bottom and discover the article was penned in 2018!!
It is even worse with COVID-19 and an economic collapse that is still cascading down the mountain. šŸ™‚

The young man makes his case well. I think that there is a little more to it than that, especially the legacy of the nineteenth century, but a good case.
