Well you wouldn't believe or read about But it has happened.
For nearly 4 years now I've been calling this bird, a Peach-Faced Parrot, Henri Le Merde, because the breeder informed me he was DEFINITELY a Male.
This morning, as per usual, I wake up, uncover 'his' cage to discover EITHER miracles do happen (LOL) OR my Male Parrot has had a very secret Sex Change because there on the bottom of the cage is an egg that was most definitely NOT there when I covered him/her up last night.
So, it looks very much that 'Henri Le Merde' will now have to be renamed as 'Henrietta La Merde' instead....LOL.

Some birds can be notoriously difficult to sex, with some surgery being the only way to tell for sure. If it hatches though, I got nothing. 😉

Birds can change sex from female to male - this is well-documented and I even observed it once first-hand! If the main ovary is damaged, male hormones take over and the bird becomes male in appearance and in function (though remains chromosomally female.)

But...I don't think that this is possible in the other direction (male to female). Unless...maybe...she was female chromosomally, but had a disease or something damaging her ovary all this time? Maybe that disease or inflammation recently cleared up and she was finally able to produce female hormones. I suppose that could be possible.

Or maybe your neighbor is getting some sweet revenge by sneaking into your house at night. Maybe he's trying to bring you to Jeebus by fabricating a miracle.

I'm having trouble with posting links, but if you're curious about the bird sex thing, you could Google "can birds change their sex".

You seem a little shell shocked. I guess the yolk's on you. But look on the sunny side. Henrietta is bisexual. Very trendy these days. You should scramble to get yourself a meeting with the renouned egg expert, Al Bumen. He's a little hard boiled but tasteful.

One could be quite correct in saying you cracked a few very good yolks there....LOL.

@Triphid Omelet that one alone

. . . You buy them books and send them to school and this is what they come home and do???

Yeah sad isn't it?

Hell of a kidney stone...

I've a had a Kidney stone, those bloody things hurt like buggery to get rid of.

@Triphid Yeah, they scratch & stab every inch and leave an open gouge that makes peeing like childbirth. Too much meat...

Mais c'est juste de la merde blanche.

C'est de la merde blanche, impossible, c'est trop grande pour un petite oiseau, oui?

False advertising lol

The same thing happened with my sun conure named Calbert. He, er, she started laying eggs a couple of years in. She’d have a batch of 4–6 eggs, sit on them, and chitter to them lovingly for a few weeks. I’d toss them when she finally realized they weren’t hatching — and the cycle would repeat. She was obsessed with becoming a mama.

Well at least 'Henrietta La Merde can LEGALLY claim the right to having a COMPLETELY Virgin Birth since there IS NO male parrot anywhere in or around my house.....LOL.

@Triphid Same with my Calbert! LOL. I was shocked to learn “he” was a girl. 😄

@Apunzelle Yep, 'Henrietta has given me quite a 'surprise too I might add.

Hahaha, what a shocking surprise! What's in a name, anyway. Probably just thought you were calling her Henri for short.

No wonder he/she has always said to me "Shut Up" every time I speak....LOL

2

That would be a shocker! Is she acknowledging the egg in any way? So what now (other than the change in name)?

She certainly is beautiful!

Nope, he/she is showing no interest at all.

Well it was the easter bunny out of season of course!!!
