I'm just curious to see what the community thinks about this. Do you think this is the end times that the book of fairy tales tries to predict or just a terrible bump in human history. I think it's option b.

Ignoring the 'Big Book Of Bullshit' altogether. It is a human centric vanity, to think that we could bring an end to life on earth anyway, we are not yet that powerful.

Even if we all died and all the land vertebrates with us, that would not be the end of history. It would in fact perhaps take only a few million years for the surviving life, to crawl out of its holes, and spread from its deep sea vents to rebuild a complex ecosystem again. A great mass extinction perhaps, but the world has had half a dozen or more of those already.

If you mean the state of ‘our’ nation, it depends on whether we can slow the decay. We’re a tremendously powerful nation whose level of consumption has finally hit the wall. Instead of understanding why, our remaining wealth has used this anger and frustration to target those having kept it slightly in check. If the nation wakes, it might save itself. If not, it’s up to the rest of the world to keep ‘us’ in check..

Like that book of myths sprinkled with distorted history, it’s a human concocted mess 😕

End times? What is that?

I think this is likely to be exactly the end times the Bible talked about. My guess is it was a metaphor for social collapse; not a prediction of the literal end of “time”. That interpretation likely became popular only in the 17th century, and was never the original “intent”.

Societies come into existence, grow, and collapse. This has happened often enough in human history that the story has found its way into our collective unconscious and emerged as natural mythology. Natural as opposed to contrived by an individual. Natural as a collective emergent property of H.sapiens.

Our mythology tells the story of our collective generational experience.

So I don’t think the universe and time itself are about to vanish, as modern Biblical literalism might have it. But it seems realistic to think our empire may be in decline - near the end of its time.

Actually, I think it's all caused by the magical community because voldemort has gotten loose again. What? Was there another book of fairy tales you thought relevant?

It's an absolutely fantastic time in human history. Better than 2010. Better than 2000, Better than 1990.

You should read Enlightenment Now and stop watching the BS on nightly news.

I stopped watching the news 20 + years ago. I posted this to see what other people were thinking about this time in our history.

I might take look at the literature you suggested.

Jesus and his followers thought they were living in the "end times." Throughout history people have thought they were living in the end times.

The earth will come to an end in a few billion years. And, it might become inhospitable for life long before that. But, it will have nothing to do with a god, prophecies, or fairy tales and might have a lot to do with human behavior.

There is no "end times" as presented in the biblical myth.

In the end, it won't matter.

All the above for too many!!!

Others it is just another speed bump to get over or go around!!!

You’re asking atheist if this is the end times...

China's expansionism reminds me of Adolf Hitler. Donald Trump's stupidity reminds me of the Village Idiot. The rise of the far right reminds me of Islamic State. Nothing new here. Move on.

Good points
