When did we here in the U.S. start using the word queue instead line. I read and hear more and more about people being in a queue and not in a line. I don’t mind using queue, I just wish that there were some kind of an official notice that we were going to do this.

To my knowledge, ''queue'' hasn't yet become officially POLITICALLY CORRECT.....so, use whichever you wish!

Line can be misinterpreted. For instance, the military form a line on parade. One can draw a line on paper. One can draw a (figurative) line at a behaviour. One can line dance. None of these convey the sense of a queue.
