Today's Hike... Nothing But Problems --

It's beautiful out today so I called a lady friend and we decided to do some hiking on one of the numerous nature preserves around here. I looked up a large one just 15 mins away and we headed there but when we got there we saw no way to get in.

For real, there was no way at all to get in except to trespass on some private property that had a No Trespassing sign posted.

Confused, we looked up some more info and saw there was another way in through an adjacent park about 20 mins further so we headed that way. When we got there the park was closed which meant the way in was closed.

Now we're really getting frustrated. I remembered a nature trail just a few miles away so we headed there -- it was open! Great! It was just a 2-mile nature trail rather than a whole wide open nature preserve but at this point we were happy to have even that. We got on the trail and started walking -- everything was lovely. After a bit we reached a swampy area and the swamp had completely flooded the trail. This was a real swamp with gators and snakes so there was no way to go forward so we had to turn back. We'd only gone about a half mile.

Total distance walked on today's attempt to go hiking, about a mile.

AAUUUUGGHHH!

After that, we gave up and went for an ice cream instead. Don't you hate the days where nothing goes right? I'm amazed the ice cream didn't burst into flame or something considering how the day was going.

I was going to take some and post them but who wants to share pictures of bad luck and disappointment? I should've taken a picture of the flooded trail but I didn't think of it at that moment because I was too busy thinking "This can't be happening. Are we on Punk'd?"

This sort of thing never happens to LiterateHiker when she goes hiking.

An onboard battery powered portable grinder W/ cut-off wheel can work wonders on ..unnecessary restrictions. And, a great way to judge the renegade level of your companion.. 😀

"I'm amazed the ice cream didn't burst into flame."

Hilarious! I laughed out loud reading this. Sorry about your frustration.

For Thursday's 10-mile, steep hike, we crossed private property to get to the trail. Karen previously asked for permission from the property owner. He said YES, and showed her where we can park on his property.

Since he hosts weddings on his property, he doesn't want to make local people mad. We got lucky.

I'm glad hordes of people can't hike to this spectacular spire! It would break my heart to see graffiti on it.

There's a big state park about 20 miles from here. I might try there but if I get there and it's closed too I might just throw a profanity laced tantrum on the spot.

More likely I'll just throw up my hands and give up on the whole idea.

Nice rock.

That's why my RV, after I paid $1300.00 in February to get ready for traveling, has just sat. The few day trips I tried in the car were total busts...nothing open, no food except fast, nothing.

Don't give up. You gotta get at least $130K worth of fun outta that thing.
