That's got to be really irritating. I'm lucky, people usually get my name right, it's an easy one. Except that sometimes people call me Julie, which drives me crazy.

Sometimes people call other people the wrong name on purpose.

When I was growing up, people use call me Steven. Which is the name my cousins, who is 6 mos. younger than me. My first name is Michael. I made a point to correct them.

People are always calling me skidoo or skaydoe,

Same situation, don't bother much unless it is something they need to write my name down correctly, but just some passing conversations with some aquitence I don't bother.

I have had people call me Larry, Lawrence, Lars, hey you, asshole, dick head, son of a bitch, and motherfucker. I will answer to any of those.

If they mispronounce my last name, I correct them if I'm going to have further interaction with them. If they call me by the wrong first name, I wait until they say it several times before I politely and discretely tell them my name is Joe. No big deal, I've done it myself, no need to be an asshole about it. People make mistakes.

I have friends I’ve known for almost fifty years still spell my name Terri instead of Terry. And we exchange Christmas cards every year with my name in big letters. What are you going to do? Life is too short to sweat the small stuff.
