Apparently today was thanksgiving day in America...where you murder thousands of turkeys for really no apparent reason and we British people have to wait till the 25th December to do the same...discuss...lol

It's not as cold. This saves on cooking time. It could also do with perception of animal psychology. It's a fact that as days grow colder and gloomier, so do humans. Apply this to large birds, and we are ending their suffering. I have a question for you. Do your dead birds tend to be found in a locked room with a guy in a tux standing outside the door?

And if we didn't slaughter all these turkeys, they would all be standing around getting in the way. And you'd have to feed them.

I eat turkey all year. One of my favorite sandwiches is turkey and ham. A couple of slices of each with provalone on 7-grain bread, grilled in butter. Mmmmmmm!

You should try adding pepperoni. I haven't tried turkey and ham, but it sounds good.
They were only born in the first place to be eaten, not like the herds of bison, ya know

@James121 ummmm, yeah, almost everything we eat...would there be billions of chickens and turkeys? Huge herds of beef or milk cows? Hell, giants wheat fields? I think not.......
Turkeys are murdered in the name of tradition, which is something the Brits excel at. Our Christmas "dinner" can be whatever we want it to be, Thanksgiving in the US there is usually a choice of Ham or Turkey. I had my Thanksgiving dinner last Saturday with some of the family, today I have been home alone. Tomorrow one of the kids is delivering a Thanksgiving meal to me. Friday is the day of the post Thanksgiving abomination called Black Friday which I refuse to participate in. Our Christmas day festivities usually begins with breakfast of Sausage gravy on biscuits, that is our tradition. 3 years ago our Christmas festivities had to be expanded to include a birthday for my first grandchild, she will be 4 on Christmas day, and every child deserves a birthday celebration.

ok I am of the whats the actual point of christmas and birthdays...as to what is the actual point of reminding people of when they were born and who gives a fuck...its a small group but will expand as there is no real reason ever to tell people that you are getting old or you need presents that you can get at any point in your life whether its christmas or any other day of the week where people would want to buy you presents...just me then
@James121 I am of the opinion that celebrating people is a good thing. Christmas I don't give a darn about, but I was delighted to meet my grandchild and celebrations of her birth are quite in order. If not celebrating birthdays gives you satisfaction go for it, the rest of us will be over here at the party having a good time. Just a point of reference, I "celebrated" my 19th birthday in USArmy basic training by going to gas chamber training. It is hard to have a suckier birthday. My mom died when she was 45, and each year past 45 for me has been a celebration that I'm still here. My mom never got to know any of her grandchildren, and my children never got to know her which is a tragic loss. Passing 45 was a milestone for me, and every birthday past that is a celebration.

@James121 The turkeys were born to be dinner. Most Americans as well as most Europeans are carnivores. Given my choices I am a vegetarian, however I don't dictate other people's choices.
@HippieChick58 and do turkeys know this....the assumption that a non human species would love to be eaten by another species really fascinates me...do tell
@James121 all prey animals know this,which is 90%+ of animals. Do you think a mouse or rabbit is not Constantly on guard? Only apex predators such as humans find this hard to understand, and only for about 15,000 years for us.
@James121 I'm pretty sure farmed turkeys are some of the dumbest creatures ever born. Wild turkeys are damn hard to hunt so I'm absolutely positive they're constantly on edge and alert for the predators.
