The Dems are masters of the pre-emptive cave and negotiating with themselves in phony pursuit of non-existent bipartisanship. Why? Because they really aren't rivals or that different than the Repubs and are instead more of a fake opposition party on all the issues that really matter to the ruling class and corporate America, which do not include identity politics and culture war issues. Most of the battles in DC over issues the two parties agree on are just so much Kabuki theater.
