Family's out of town for a week starting today. I find myself at complete loose ends for the weekend, which is atypical (usually I'm doing family-focused stuff). So here's my question (I'm crowd-souring this one out of curiousity): What would you do with a random, aimless weekend? Road trip, theater, bum around and read, binge drinking? Other thoughts? 🙂

Food prep, cleaning, errands, snuggling with the cats, watching my programs, sleeping more.

Theater and reading for me, depending on what was available.

All of the above! What do you like to do? What interests of yours have gone by the wayside since having kids? It's all about you! Have fun 🙂

strip club or binge sports. Or both.

@Bostonian Interesting.

Hike at dusk, so you don’t burn, and then camp under the stars on the highest most non light polluted mountain near you.
Get some forest time.

"crowd-souring" I like that! A pretty good description of some responses I've seen. 😉

Find something that occupies your mind in a relaxing and positive manner. Binge drinking ain't it.

I've been on a "staycation" for five days now. I have slept in late, cleaned, donated unused items to Goodwill afte purging my home of things I don't need, eaten at places I've wanted to, but hadn't, visited my new local all vegan market, skyped with friends, went on a 4 mile hike. Basically, I just did what I wanted to do. It's been wonderufl!

I'd prefer going on day hikes through the woods, if hte wether is nice. If it is raining, then just the usual readign withe the cats sleeping on me.

I usually feel a little panicked in the situation. The devil sits on one shoulder and an angel on the other. And really, it's all just noise. If I feel like doing something I wouldn't do in their presence I ask myself why not? Maybe I need to be truer to myself and less of a phony or martyr when my family is around. Just being lazy, for instance because I get tired and need downtime. Doesn't mean I'm going to turn into a full time bum, just that if I'm pretending energy and enthusiasm I don't feel, then resentment can creep in. If I'm afraid to be myself, what is the quality of my closest relationships? On the other hand, I might choose to do something that I don't have to talk others into. It could be paddle boarding or painting or just about anything. Just something I'm interested in and others are not. Getting in touch with who you are when you aren't accommodating others might actually make your relationships stronger. Not to imply that you don't enjoy family time, but we all bend and fold ourselves for others. Who are you when that's not a factor? They will find you happier and more interesting when they return. Or you could just watch Netflix.?

I have a honey-do list about a mile long if you are really bored.... 😉

Never ever happened! I would probably go to work

I would go hiking in the mountains or go for a random drive (this is where you start out in a direction and choose roads you have never been down before just to explore and see what it's out there.
